Love the optimism

But who are we giving them in this hypothetical trade?

If there's ever a riot at Citi Field and Oliver Perez was the starter, I started the riot.

Omar + Andrew Friedman = disaster (for us)

Omar might end up sending Thole + Davis. Or worse.

Agreed

If this is the Mets it can only end poorly.

god damn it.

Apparently it really is true that even the Pirates have suprassed us in FO intelligence. I feel like all we have left are the Royals.

I don't actually think this is a good thing for the Mets.

I’m sure this move helps them to buy Alvarez a little more time in the minors, as there had been some talk of moving Andy LaRoche to 2nd to make room. The Pirates aren’t going anywhere next year, and Iwamura will likely be available again at the deadline if the Pirates suck or if Pedro is raking (if the Mets still have a need). His price should drop with only 1/2 a season remaining, unless it looks like he’ll be a type A (in which case giving up talent doesn’t hurt as badly). At least it wasn’t a team like the Cubs, where you’d know he would finish out his contract.

Pirates made a SMART move here.

They give up a fungible right handed reliever for an improvement in infield defense. Pirates have three ground ball starters in Duke, Maholm and Morton. Sounds like they’re BUILDING TO STRENGTH.

It's Akinori Iwamura

Seriously, just breathe…

The Mets need a few more Akinoris on the team

Right. You can't spell Championship without 'Akinori'

you can't spell playoffs without payoffs

as in from players who turn in solid average seasons, something the Mets have sorely lacked.

There's that

But the Royals handle the draft much more intelligently than the Mets do.

defense

about 10 runs better.

by Sam Page on Nov 3, 2009 7:31 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

He was still worth less than Castillo somehow

And I’m not completely sure that Castillo is going to be 10 runs below average defensively again next year.

by Syler on Nov 3, 2009 7:32 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

by being injured for 100 games?

that can really drop your WAR…

by Sam Page on Nov 3, 2009 8:24 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Castillo is a second baseman in name only at this point

His defense is abominable. All of his value is tied up in his ability to beat out infield hits about 1-2 times a week and draw walks, and while the latter is certainly a repeatable skill, as 2008 showed, the former is not.

Idea for a TV commercial

Pop tarts: two hot pop tarts flip up from the toaster, are in mid air, and Luis aims to grab them, but they are too hot, and he drops them. Murph, however, can take the heat because of his blue collar and grabs them, flipping them behind the back a la Webgems ’09 to Johan, who is covering first base and bites into one.

I'd buy pop tarts if I saw that commercial
