That would make too much sense

why sign a guy who’s a better hitter than Molina to a much lower contract and have plenty of money for other positions when you can blow a few million more on a guaranteed contract to a 35 year old who will give Jeff Francouer a run for his money in the sub-.300 OBP sweepstakes.

Yeah that would be a great signing

He’s coming off a career low BABIP, but his excellent power and walk rate still made him a league average catcher last year. He’s still under 30.

The Mets evaluate players probably like this: BA X 2 > RBIs > HR > low strike out rate > speed > Intangibles > (some convoluted determination of) defense > BB% so I have a feeling the low BA/high strikeouts is going to prevent the Mets from having much interest, but the omgz HRs in ’08 might help.

How’s his injury history/defense?
