I lobby for game 7.

Francesa needs to sweat off a few more pounds, and so do all the fat ass Yankee fans I work with.

Eric

can we change the Pedro picture to just a blank face? Pedro pitching a WS game with that hat on as his picture is kinda demoralizing…. as if this series can’t be anymore

Yeah, really.

Isn’t there a photo of him wearing a Red Sox hat ?.

Well for a second you can imagine the Mets are in the world series, not the …. well you know.

I have to say

Ben Francisco is on the list of Phillies I don’t absolutely hate. And it’s a short list. He’s new, I guess.

by deadspy3 on Nov 4, 2009 7:10 PM EST reply actions

He's probably the most boring Phillie ever.

He’s not gritty enough. He’s gotta do something insane.

Beer is good! And stuff!

by R_Adragna on Nov 4, 2009 7:36 PM EST up reply actions

what are you talking about!!

theres nothing crazier than being on the phillies and not being gritty!

Well there is one thing.

In fact, it’s the greatest thing that has ever happened. This:

Grindcore is a strange genre.

That’s why I like it. Along with the majority of heavy metal’s subgenres.

yea

i was always into more traditional metal with the exceptions being death, hammerfall, in flames. mostly sepultura, slayer, megadeth (better than tallica) and then the proggy stuff like rush, genesis, yes, tool, crimson, dream theater.

whered he start out?

and we also left tony levin off the list

only time i saw Sheehan was at that G3 thing with Satriani Vai and petrucci… but i feel like i saw him play with somebody else.

Sheehan played in Vai's band, and Mr. Big was his side project.

I don’t think Vai was ever WITH Mr. Big.

Have you guys seen Mr Big’s cover of Deep Purple’s " Burn ". ?

Mr. Big, damn.

All I remember is their ballad, which was pretty cool. Any recent material that’s been out from them?

Among them Municipal Waste and Warbringer. They tear new ones.

By the way

I just watched the first few innings of Game 4 of the ’69 World Series. So much better than this crapfest.

It’s funny seeing the green wall at Shea (you think people were complaining it wasn’t “Mets” enough back then?) and seeing Davey Johnson (just “Dave” then) get booed. Also pretty awesome watching Tom Seaver face off against the likes of Frank Robinson

Tex just missed that

by the way, does anyone else find it as funny as I do how the Yankees fans hated Tex when he started off slow, then they fell in love with him and claimed he should be MVP when he had a really good season, and now they hate him again for having a cold two weeks?

Yankees fans are the best

how many of them didn’t come around on ARod until this postseason? I’d wager a much higher percentage than Mets fans who dislike Beltran or Wright.

I think it’s a difference of expectations. Yankees fans are extremely unreasonable, and if a player hasn’t won 4 rings for them, he’s gonna be extra-scrutinized. We’re just happy with guys who get us meaningful games in September

There were no expectations near the end

2007 was like being shot 5 times, having acid poured on your face, having your feet cut off, and then having a Phillies fan spit on you and telling you that you suck

by Syler on Nov 4, 2009 11:33 PM EST up reply actions

here's my argument for right now:

it’s like the culmination of a long stretch of suck that only started in August, ‘07. Like, after that we went and got Santana and I was convinced we were good to go, and then September ’08 happened. And even after all that, I still thought we’d be right in it this year, only to suck as bad as we’ve sucked in half a decade. And to top it off, the two worst possible teams play each other in the Series.

by cjmulrain on Nov 4, 2009 11:35 PM EST up reply actions

My argument:

I was there for the final game of 2007. It was literally like a morgue after the first inning. I felt numb for the rest of the day and the rest of the season. Oh, and going to the game was a birthday present.

Nothing that happened this year could ever match the pure horror and shame I felt that day.

by Syler on Nov 4, 2009 11:36 PM EST up reply actions

same here

my birthday’s October 3, so my dad took me to like 6 or 7 “last game of the years” as a present, and for 2007 we had awesome seats right behind the Mets dugout. I’ll never forget the look on Glavine’s face when he walked off the mound. I wanted to jump out there and punch him.

This year, we knew we were out by the midway point or so, with all the injuries.

A slow blood letting isn’t that bad, as compared to being shot.

Eh

it was kinda obvious 03 was gonna be a disaster after the cedeno signing and Alomar looked so lost. I was only 8 in 93 but i think thatd be worse. Like the next hudson, mulder, ztio combo just falling apart. Also another reason to hate Steve Phillips was when he traded Izzy who ended up being a damn good reliever for 4-5 years for billy freakin taylor

by MetsKnicksRutgers on Nov 4, 2009 11:32 PM EST up reply actions

93 was fun, 62 was excusable

midnight massacre was bad, ’03 i enjoyed in some weird way… ’07 sucked… aboslutely sucked.

by KeithsMoustache on Nov 4, 2009 11:32 PM EST up reply actions

i usually do

but theres fun terrible, and sad resigned terrible. 93 mets were great, i was young but its one of the teams i remember best.

by KeithsMoustache on Nov 4, 2009 11:36 PM EST up reply actions

I don't mind it when you know they're gonna be terrible

my childhood was very enjoyable, b/c I just missed the 80’s teams, so all I knew were Bobby Bo and Jeff Kent and the suck that came with them. And even in ‘03, I knew we had Reyes and Wright coming up the pipes, and I remember telling my dad it reminded me a lot of the ’83 Mets, with Doc and Darryl on the way. That’s what made ’06 hurt so much – that was supposed to be ’86, and it was oh so close.

season is close to the low point but…
yeah, ’07 and Glavin probably gets my vote. Hell , that whole September…

by MetsFan4Decades on Nov 4, 2009 11:34 PM EST up reply actions

That shit

was bizarre. Nothing broke right for us. When SP was strong we didn’t score runs, or the BP killed us or if we killed the opposing pitcher our SP failed us and the BP would get burnt out and blow the next game a day later. All of this culminating with gado breaking his damn hand on the last day of the season and probably messing up the beginning of 08. If we coulda just won in 06, i wouldnt be such a bitter asshole

by MetsKnicksRutgers on Nov 5, 2009 12:00 AM EST up reply actions

'06 was the real heartbreaker

the Mets were the best team in baseball that year.

Thank God!

I live in Philly, which is why I rooted for the Hankees. I didn’t want to see people celebrating in my face while I’m so miserable. I was forced to witness the parade of drunk douche bag Phillies fans last year clog up Center City last year, so I’m ecstatic to not have to see that again. (But if I was living in NY, I would have rooted for the Sillies. Same rationale. Misery loves company.)

always better to suffer in company than to suffer alone. And hey, when the Mets finally do make it back to the top someday, we’ll all be able to point to this thread and say we were there for the bad times.

Now I’m gonna go continue my Mets dynasty in OOTP Baseball and then cry myself to sleep. I’m only joking about one of those – I’ll let you guess which one.

Introducing Buddy Alderson, Sandy's dog, and the newest member of Puppy Avenue!

Embiggen here.
Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.
