Hit-and-run victim outside Phillies game dies from injuries
Sad, really. However, that's got to be some sort of team record for most fans killed outside of home ballpark during a single season.

As much as I hate Philly
I’m gonna say that this is something that could happen after probably every single professional (and collegiate) sporting event in America. In fact, I’m actually surprised it doesn’t happen more often – I know way too many people (and may, in fact, be guilty of it myself) who shouldn’t be getting behind the wheel when they leave sporting events.

I'm with ya on being surprised
Considering that this level of debauchery reaches to bigger extremes in the majority of sporting events (unless you’re at BYU). Then again, I take it as a really great thing that it’s not happening often either because they’re smart enough to hire DD’s before the event or they just go all out and then get put in the detox part of the jail for a few days.

its true, its amazing how many assholes leave games (or anywhere else for that matter) drunk and drive away
i think drunk driving should be punished a lot more severely than it is in general because the deterrants in place are clearly not working that well.
Yep
I recall attending a plea proceeding for a client of an attorney I interned with during law school. Dude was on his 13th DWI. 13. How much time was he getting for his 13th DWI? 6-12 months. So with good behavior he’s out in four months. A little bit crazy.

im totally with you on that rant
it drives me crazy how nonchalant we are about this kind of thing. 13 shows real dedication to douchebaggery though, gotta give him credit for consistency right?

I think it's because
We look at being a drunken fool as a sort of entertaining art form. Today’s culture thrives on it more than ever.
And yes, you must give him credit for being a consistently complete douchenoid. Matter of fact, there’s gotta be some form of grission involved in being DWI.

grission bonus only comes after you break the 10 barrier
And I myself have been the drunken fool any number of times, but never behind the wheel of a car. Its not like you go out and end up drunk by surprise… you know you’re gonna do it plan accordingly… its not difficult. Also good use of douchenoid, i’ve gotta incorporate that into my vocab more often.

I'm so glad
I grew up in NY and could take a cab or Subway home when I got obliterated in HS/at Mets games.
yeah the more i think about it, the more i can see the advantages of living in NYC for reasons like that
despite the fact its a bit crowded and expensive for my liking.

DC is actually way better
they make it practically impossible to drive to Nats games – it’s a million times easier taking the Metro. They don’t even really have a parking lot for Nats games (technically they have a few parking garages, but I think they’re only for season ticket holders, and you can park at RFK and take a shuttle to the stadium, but I don’t know if anyone ever actually does that).

DC does have a pretty decent transit system too
but anywhere outside of the central hub gets a bit sketchy

Does it?
I’ve been to DC twice, and rode the subway once. The thing closes down at night, doesn’t it? It’s been a while, but I remember reading, or hearing an announcement, or something like that, that because it was Saturday, the subway was going to be opened an extra hour, until 1 AM (or maybe 2 AM).

it does close down
2am on weekends, 1am on weekdays, I believe. It’s kind of obnoxious, but when it’s open it’s far better than the NYC Subway. Also, DC Bars close at 2, so it’s not like you’re gonna be out much later than the Metro anyway

The entire concept of municipal things "shutting down" is completely foreign to me.
I was in Atlanta once. They had a decent subway system, from my one ride on it.

ah i was out and about during the day
I know when the sun is out its very good, but maybe at night not so much. I’ll defer to the wisdom of others on this one

Taking the 7 Train home is great
Where else can you take part in a Train Wave, filled with numerous tipsy and/or drunk people? I don’t like the Wave, at the game itself, but on the train after the game, where everyone crams into the cars as much as possible because they don’t want to wait for the next one? Awesome.

I have never seen a Train Wave before.
Then again, I’ve taken the LIRR to the stadium instead, where everybody just shouts and screams and picks fights. Where’s the fun in that? I need to get a Train Wave going on the LIRR the next time I go to the games.

I took the LIRR once.
I took the 1 train up to Penn, but me and my sister were running late. We would have gotten to the game late if we took the 1 up to Times Square, got the Grand Central shuttle, and then got the 7, so we stopped off at Penn and took the Woodbridge (I think) / Shea Stadium train. It was pretty subdued, but it was BEFORE the game and all, so…

And then everyone got raunchy and rowdy after the game.
And they all lived happily ever after. The End.

I need to edit the description.
It should say, “However, that’s got to be a team record for most fans killed OUTSIDE OF HOME BALLPARK during a single season.”
