Really cool
This is the best part:
Despite having barely played in the preceding years, I didn’t really feel that rusty, and when I picked up a bat, it all came rushing back to me. [Editor’s note: This is a bit of an understatement. Kiner hit 13 home runs in 30 spring training games to make the Pirates, and then led the NL in homers that season!]
Pretty amazing, considering he basically missed 2.5 years.

Back when men were men
That’s an awesome story.

Pretty much. That's grit right there.

It's always pretty interesting to read about the WWII era, and personal accounts of the soldiers who served.
That it’s Ralph makes it all the more interesting. I didn’t know he served as a pilot. Good ol’ Ralph. It’ll be a very, very sad day when he finally passes on.
