Polanco, a Type-A free agent, would be an interesting option at second if the Mets are able to move Luis Castillo.

The Tigers did offer arbitration to Type-B free agent relievers Fernando Rodney and Brandon Lyon. This means nothing to teams interested in their services, as Type-B free agents require no compensation from the signing team (the former team does get a sandwich pick after the first round, but those picks come from a pool that is limited only by the number of Type-A and -B free agents who sign elsewhere).

Lyon is useful against lefties and righties and should definitely be on the Mets' radar (but probably isn't).

Polanco

Aren’t his defensive skills declining in a Castillo-esque fashion?

Shoppach to the Rays for a PTBN. One good option gone from C market.

according to uzr they're not

And for a 1, or at most a 2 year deal that probably wouldn’t be an issue. I have no idea what he’s expected to get though.

Thanks

that’s good news. Therefore this might very well be a wise signing so it can’t happen.

Damn

I liked Shoppach for the Mets. Maybe Omar has his eye on Chris Snyder? Who am I kidding? It’s probably Molina or bust.

If we can move

Castillo and not eat the money, Polanco HAS to be signed. Give him the exact same that Luis is getting 2/12 or 2/15

after watching how we've handled this offseason so far

i have very little hope we could sign Polanco since it would be a move that actually helped the team.

OK, here's what you need to do, Omar.

First you sign Polanco to a deal. Then you go out, dig a steep hole, get Castillo and tell him that we’re going on a Treasure Hunt. Make him then jump into the hole to find the gold. Finally, you get the bulldozer to dump a big ass pile of dirt on him and bury him alive!

I KNOW that you cannot fuck this up!

Beer is good! And stuff!

I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
In order to raise extra capital, the Mets have explored signing Kosuke Fukudome to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training (replete with curiously high uniform number).
