No question. Schneider's (barely) better (they both suck)
and the vesting option puts it over the top.

Voted for Cora
They’re both pretty replaceable. At least you might be able to get out of Cora quicker.
Not the best few days for NL East GM’s.

Schneider is actually a useful parttime player
Cora should be a bench coach or something
Its sad
This feels like a loaded question, but it isn’t.
I feel like people are giving Schneider too much credit
His career could have ended after last seasons performance
There is a big difference
Mets paying Cora $2MM a year hoping that he starts no more than 10 games tops.
Phils paying Schneider $1.5 MM a year hoping that he cathes 80+ games.
Plus Schneider doesnt have two busted thumbs, and the Mets have become quite adept at bidding against themselves. Cora would have signed for $750 K, there was zero interest.
However, Schneider is still very serviceable and would still start for many teams.
I think the Mets are probably expecting at least 25-30 starts from Cora
if not more, at least if they can’t unload Castillo. He won’t be the starting SS again, but I think they are thinking of him as a once a week starter over Luis. And wanting Schneider to start 80+ games when there are numerous better options out there is epic fail.
The Cora deal wasn’t good, but neither is the Schneider deal.
"[The Giants] beat us down. We were beat by a grown-man team, a team we want to be like one day. They came in here and took it to us. Out-manned us, out-gunned us. ... It wasn't even close." - Raheem Morris, 9/27/09
If Mets get 30 starts from Cora...
They are doomed.
As for Schneider, the Phillies got a solid catcher, and I’m sure then know how well lefthanded hitters perform in that bandbox they play in.
We’ll agree to disagree.
Schneider is not "solid"
He’s at best average defensively and he’s a complete black hole offensively, and the Phillies gave him a 2 year contract.
What makes you say that Schneider is "at best average" defensively?
I didn’t realize the question of catcher defense was so settled.
Schneider is a black hole, but catcher is a black hole position.
Amazingly, I think Omar did the better job signing Cora, in this case.
If the Phillies didn’t give Schneider a second year, I’d say they made the better move. But, they did. Cora only has an option, if he meets certain benchmarks, which, if all goes well, he won’t, and that’s that. We’re paying him more money to do less, but the Phillies are getting saddled with a Schneider who was in serious decline for two years.
