Sign R.A. Dickey. He may suck, but he throws da knuckleballz. And a fairly decent beard.
Travis Hafner is made of gold
And
Casey Fossum soley if he can reclaim the “Fossum Flip”. A combination of those two taking turns the entire game while the other runs out to second base would throw off the timing of any Utley in the world, as well as improved UZR in the infield.
Travis Hafner is made of gold
That was the only reason I was excited to see Fossum get promoted last year.
And, of course, that didn’t work out…

Yeah
I was more pandering to what I was thinking would be the communal view, I secretly think he’s a serviceable, cheap pitcher. I’ll probably have to concede that AwesomeFossum isn’t an actual solution though (though in video games that Flip is impossible to hit).

Also
Look at all the former Mets at the bottom of that list! Not to mention potential future ones.
Travis Hafner is made of gold
Yeah, there are MANY!
I believe they constitute 6 of the bottom 20.

Hah
compare Bedard’s IP total to the guys around him
"For $11.4 million you can actually get a good player. But of course this is one of the things foolish organizations do: They complain that they can't afford good players after spending millions of dollars on not-good players." --Rob Neyer
And yet he still manages be up there
The WAR statistic could be misleading in that he appears to be a good pickup. But the asking price will probably be too high. Then again, there is potential upside, but he’s almost like another Ben Sheets in that he is just as injured as he is good.

Plus...
… even when he’s on and not hurt, he’s all over the place. Dude averages 17-plus pitches an inning— that’s Clay Kershaw/Daniel Cabrera territory.
His average length-of-start— colored, of course by injury— has hovered at 5 1/3 the last two years… he works WAY harder for fewer outs than most regular starters.

Wow
For Clayton Kershaw and Daniel Cabrera to have something in common is bad, for Kershaw’s sake (or good, for Cabrera’s sake). It’s not too often that players of those respective tiers are compared as having similar attributes! Players like Scott Kazmir really tested my patience in fantasy baseball, as on a few occasions, he didn’t even finish the 5th inning! (So he couldn’t get the win even if he had the lead!) And it’s not even because he’s getting blown out or anything like that! For illustration, they are what I call “innings anorexic”.

it's weird
that before I make this post, your “innings anorexic” is right above Kevin H’s “Bring back Livan” – I think that’s the closest Livan has ever been to anorexic in his life.

Maybe he was in his youth (all those years ago). He then got over it, but overcompensated a little too much.

Speaking of that buffet table
I believe I read somewhere that Livan Hernandez wore the largest Mets uniform ever, for a player – I believe he is 52" in circumference at the chest!
I wonder what his KFC rating is.

Well, if Sidney Ponson is in the TOP 20...
Then, yeah, that could be said, though this list does a great injustice to RPs, who simply pitch less innings and have a lower WAR as a result.
Ponson pitched about 50 innings, still (as a SP, though – the weightings may be different for starting/relieving), so who knows? But it is a travesty that Ponson is higher up on that list than, say, Bob Howry. Good thing I included starting/relieving stats – that makes this list all the more useful.

Is John Bannister Brian's bro?
and if so, is he as smart. And then can we sign him for the FO
"We're investigating the investigative procedure of the investigation of Tony Bernazard"---Omar Minaya (he really didn't say it but he would"
Inconclusive
But it is very likely, considering both were born in Arizona, within a relatively close proximity. (120 miles) What bothers me is that Wikipedia does not mention anything about John Bannister being related or not related to Floyd Bannister or Brian Bannister. Even moreso still, is the fact that in the Brian Bannister page, Brian’s family is mentioned extensively, but John Bannister is never mentioned.
BTW, both are now on the same team. So, if you were to ask Royals fans about this, I’m sure someone will have an answer to this. Or, if you have access to Royals’ spring training games, maybe the TV announcers will mention something about this before the rosters are cut down to size.

Oh, I forgot
John Bannister is a free agent, of course, so he probably won’t be a Royal next year. Never mind the Royals’ spring training games, anyway – about 90% of the players there are minor leaguers anyway, if you catch my drift.

CONFIRMATION: John Bannister
From this article:

Royals claim J. Bannister off waivers
Right-hander assigned to Double-A Northwest Arkansas
By Dick Kaegel / MLB.com
MINNEAPOLIS — One right-handed pitcher named Bannister wasn’t enough for the Royals so on Tuesday they claimed John Bannister on outright waivers from the Texas Rangers.
Bannister, who has spent his entire six seasons in the Rangers’ organization in the Minor Leagues, was assigned to the Royals’ Double-A affiliate at Northwest Arkansas.
No relation to Royals starter Brian Bannister, he has a 25-33 record and 4.74 ERA in the Minors. This season, as a reliever for Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Oklahoma City, he was a combined 3-3 with a 5.96 ERA in 38 games. He was designated for assignment by the Rangers last Wednesday.
John Bannister went on the Royals’ 40-man roster which now numbers 38 players.
Dick Kaegel is a reporter for MLB.com. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
CONCLUSION: John Bannister is not related to Brian Bannister (or maybe they’re related going back several or more generations), despite the close proximity of their places of birth, which could easily be traveled to and fro, via I-10.

He is one of the Mets’ great revitalization projects, for sure! I surely would love to have him back in a Mets jersey.
