Igarashi is a very Hispanic last name.

Delivery looks pretty typical compared to other Japanese pitcher

so thats where larry bigbie went...
i love that the fans cheer and play horn music throughout the game
basically seems like a pretty decent signing here. good hard fb, excellent looking splitter, a lot better than putz’s ever looked in ‘09. didn’t see his other pitches in that sequence but supposedly he also throws slider and a curve. looks like he regularly uses the high fb as a weapon. command seems to be his primary issue.
definitely don’t mind this move at all; as long as we’re still looking at kelvim escobar (which this guy’s similar profile leads me to believe we are not).

Why not?
Presumably, if Kelvim Escobar is healthy, he’d be used as a starter.

Its the Igarashi-Maru !!!!!!!!!!!
who’s kiddin’ whooooooooooooooooo !!!!!!!!!!!!!
you know what I'm sayin' ?
yikes
yeah, another source says the bosox are offering a bit more (2 years, 3 million) and he trains with dice K, so they have the inside track
Here is Ryota Igarashi Velocity Data (during 2009 NPB season)

I'm at least encouraged to see the team look under the radar for bullpen help.
Igarashi, Everts and perhaps Escobar would go a long way toward improving the pen’s depth without clogging payroll. If only they kept Bostick and understood that Pat Misch and Elmer Dessens blow as relievers (or Major Leaguers).

I actually don't mind Misch being stashed at AAA.
He’s decent enough for that.

Here's a translation/interpretation of an article out of Japan...
the Red Sox offered Igarashi a two year deal reportedly worth 2 – 3 million dollars. the Mets and Phillies have made offers too but the Red Sox are the front runners right now. He trains at the same place as Dice-K, who has described Red Sox camp to him.
The Red Sox have Papelbon, Okajima and Bard who are solid, but they are looking for someone reliable to pitch the 6th and 7th innings.
One point of appeal to Igarashi is that with Dice-K and Okajima already on the team, they would be the first American team with three Japanese pitchers.
He is going with Dice-K to the Athletes Performance Institution in Phoenix today to start training to be in shape for camp.
The Mets and Phillies are still possibilities but the Red Sox appear to be in the lead. Igarashi says that American teams change their minds a lot, so you don’t know what’s going to happen until you sign.

Em...
The velocity and movement on the FB and split-finger/sinker were decent enough.
But if the video’s at all indicative of his control… yipe. The catcher’s mitt was bouncing around like it was leading a TV singalong.
