Even Marquis is losing interest in us?
From MLBTR MLB.com's Bill Ladson spoke with Marquis, who seemed very interested in pitching for the Nationals. Marquis indicated that he likes serving as a mentor for younger pitchers and wants to be part of a team that "making the moves that is necessary to get themselves back to being a winning organization." He pointed to several moves the Nationals have made that suggest they are that team.

When a guy who was saying he wanted to play for the Mets
has now decided the Nationals are a better decision, you know things are rough. I’m not really that high on Marquis, who’s coming off of a career season, but I found it kind of funny that he’d probably rather play for the Nats at this point.

Don't worry
we’re focused on Bay and Molina
with those two a rotation of Santana, Pelfrey, Ollie, Maine and ??? can go the distance
actually i'll bet the Mets secret plan is to go back to the old school 4 man rotation
just Santana, Pelf, Ollie, and Maine.

The two man rotation would free up a lot of roster space for backup catchers
i see the logic in this

with ollie in a 5 man rotation
it is still a 4 man rotation
Asking a General Manager to slim down his budget is like asking an alcoholic to blow up a distillery.

Marquis, slowly edging away from the Mets
and towards the Nationals…
This is unreal.
Wait, what good moves made by Nats?
Signing Ivan Rodriguez to a 2 year deal?
"We're investigating the investigative procedure of the investigation of Tony Bernazard"---Omar Minaya (he really didn't say it but he would"
finishing with the worst record in baseball 2 years in a row
with 2 of the most highly regarded draft prospects of the decade available. Brilliant maneuvering by Jim Bowden

I still say (by which I mean pray)
Bryce Harper is gonna fall to us. I’m just waiting for him to demand a $100 million signing bonus, scaring off the smaller market teams in front of us. Of course, then the Wilpons won’t want to pay up and he’ll end up going to the Yankees.
"I see the job in bigger terms. Paperwork, that’s false hustle... Know what I’m sayin’?"
Or by some incredible dumb luck, the guy we pick end up being a perenial 8-WAR uberstar.
If we don’t trade him before then.
eh, screw him
he’s just saying he wants to go pitch for whatever team he thinks is going him the contract he wants
Ding, ding, ding.
As I’ve said in my Fanshot, he has no inherent connections with us. He wants the contract, and that’s that. The connection he feels with the Mets is as strong, I bet, as the love he has for Washington D.C., having gone there on a class field trip.
