Mike vaccaro had an article today which was fairly rational, along the lines of Eric’s front pager, that the Mets need not overreact to the Sox signing lackey, etc., by overpaying someone like Bay.

However, in making this point, vaccaro compared Lackey as just an ok pitcher, similar to Appier, and said when the Mets signed him he had only been an all-star once and wasn’t really a top-notch pitcher. I got a kick out of that after having read the Rany article you linked to. It was like good point, but a lousy example.
