Mark Healey is the one reporting this
I literally don’t ever remember a rumor he was actually right about it.
To elaborate, he's also the head of Gotham Baseball Magazine
which has a forum where I posted for 2 years
He would frequently post rumors about the Mets, whether it would be getting Haren, or us getting Polanco in a trade.
The point is, he was WRONG about all of them, and there really is nothing that separates Healey from Mike Silva in terms of credibility.
Is there a way...
… to make some sort of forum or page where we can attribute rumors to writers, and show what they’ve been accurate about? It’s a pretty abstract suggestions that is likely difficult to implement, but it would probably help to figure out how good each writer’s sources are.
Yeah, he posted quite a few in the past I realllllly wanted to believe
They always turned out false.

solar eclispe?
the number one issue facing the Mets is finding that one guy who’s going to say "get on my shoulders and ride me to the championship."
Crossing my fingers
because this would be awesome…though Harang would be best.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"
-Tug McGraw
not sure why this would be awesome
unless Harang is involved. Or if Castillo is moved
dont get my hopes up like that
I couldnt stand the disappointment when it turns out untrue.

it says
“but the early speculation in these parts is that the Mets may have a player under contract hat needs to be moved in order for the deal to be expanded.”
I’m assuming that means Castillo, so they can get Phillips
"[The Giants] beat us down. We were beat by a grown-man team, a team we want to be like one day. They came in here and took it to us. Out-manned us, out-gunned us. ... It wasn't even close." - Raheem Morris, 9/27/09
I'd like to think it's murphy
and they’re aiming to get votto. the fact that murphy isn’t actually under contract is irrelevant.
Maybe we can convince Dusty that he’ll never teach Votto to be aggressive and that Murphy will be easier to mold into his ideal grissiony first basemen.
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'

if they can get Phillips
then don’t worry about Castillo’s contract. playoff tickets will offset that
hopefully the others
is Harang.
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'
it's Omar's world, we're just livin in it.
Because we're the mets
also because Omar wants reliable players doesn’t he? I vaguely remember reading a quote talking about how they were looking for players who weren’t going to be injury risks or something. Who wants ace upside when you can get a guy who will be below average for 220 innings.
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'
it's Omar's world, we're just livin in it.
Getting Arroyo AND Harang
wouldn’t be the worst thing ever. Although the cost is pretty steep.
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'
it's Omar's world, we're just livin in it.
Salary
+12.5M Harang (if traded, 2011 option becomes mutual option at $14M ($2.5M buyout))
+11M Arroyo (2011 option may increase to $13M based on IP)
+6.75M Phillips (11:$11M, 12:$12M club option ($1M buyout) if traded, 2012 club option becomes mutual option) Cot
Even if they manage to trade Castillo for nothingness (-6M), it is $25.25M increase, plus prospects/money sent in the deal.
Tell him the 'H' in Harang is silent, and that it's said with a fancy accent, and he won't know the difference.
You know?

my favorite part of this article
is where they say the Mets are absolutely refusing to give molina 3 years under any circumstances.

With all the talk about 2010 being a lost cause
would pulling off a trade for Phillips & Harang/Arroyo, in addition to signing one of the LFers, and one of the value/upside starters make people start to BELIEVE we can contend this year?

I already believe
That would make me think not only can we contend but that Omar underwent a lobotomy.

I agree
I was just wondering if that would turn the tides of apathy. And I’m putting it on my Christmas list. Santa wears red and white, Cincinnati wears red and white.
douchion = -(grission)
I don't how much of it is apathy as much as it that some/many/most of us realize that other teams are better than us.
I can agree with the people who say that our team, as it is this exact second, doesn’t suck. We’re decent. Our mediocrity isn’t going to reward us with any kind of meaningful baseball in October, however. There are too many teams that, at least on paper, seem more likely to win both the division, and the Wild Card.

The first part of that article hurts
5 years for Bay? Really?
Yeah
especially considering Seattle supposedly has no interest, and Boston’s moved on. Are we just bidding against ourselves again?

Does that supposed phantom fifth team still exist?

5th?
has there even been a phantom fourth? or do you mean that team that guaranteed him a 5th year that no one’s heard about. It might be the giants, they would do something like that.
But hell if Bay would rather play 5 years for the giants than 4 years here than good riddance.

I'd love to see Arroyo with the Mets
Somebody make it happen. That’s an order.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
agreed
I can actually get behind this move! Arroyo has won big games and is a proven playoff pitcher. My god a legit number 2. MAKE THIS HAPPEN. It would be a Christmas Miracle for all us mets fans
You have low expectations...

I never said I would hate to see Bay.
I said I didn’t want a very long contract for Bay.
4 years = OK
5 years = bleh
6 years = kill somebody.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
I've heard they're telling Bay it's less money if he wants more years
Which is all to the good, for us, as it will make it easier to ship him to the AL.
Though obviously six years is absurd.

2006 reminder,
Orlando Hernandez, 40 plus10; Glavine, 40; Pedro, 34; Trachsel, 35; and Maine, 25…..
And now we need to complain about Arroyo.
I'm 20
but I’m pretty sure I’d still suck. So i’m not sure what age has to do with anything.
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'

I can actually throw, with some location, and four-seam fastball, a two-seam fastball, and a circle change.
I can’t seem to get any breaking pitches to work. Which is odd, because I throw completely over-the-top, so you’d think the curve would work. I can’t get it to break, ever.
All are horribly slow, in comparison to even amateur baseball players, and I hit my location (which is fairly general) pretty much every three out of four times.
I’m 23; I want to be tendered a contract, if age matters. I’m sure my shoulder is injury prone, though.

I'm ambidextrous
I can throw sliders right handed and fastballs left handed. My repertoire also include cutter, gyroball and shuuto. I can certainly do well in a field with 500ft walls and 3 Voltrons covering ground. Sickles graded me +++A.
Hopefully Phillips to metsworld....
Santos, Parnell, Castillo, Holt, and Nieuwenhuis for Bronson and Brandon plus 4mill
...
that’s way too much
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'
it's Omar's world, we're just livin in it.
meh
hold out one of parnell or holt maybe. Santos is filler, Castillo has negative value and Nieuwenhuis is B-spect.
Holt and Parnell is what i considered too much
Bronson should almost be treated like a straight salary dump for them so to me it would really be all that for Phillips, and Phillips is good but he’s also been trending down and being paid fair market value in 2011, 2012, so it’s not like he’s a massive steal. And they’re desperate to cut payroll.

Arroyo and Phillips make a lot of sense for the Mets,
but since Arroyo’s salary is at least market value and the Reds are looking for salary relief we should look at it as a trade for Phillips where his salary is a good but not great deal. Niewheriwoeriuwois and Parnell for Phillips (with Arroyo thrown in) who’s under club control for two (three?) more years is a very good deal for the Mets. Parnell has yet to have success at AAA, and only put up a 1.73 K/BB ratio in AA. He’ll be 25. He’s a fringy prospect.
Speaking of deals, Nick Johnson to the Yankees for 1/5.5.
Or, a little more than the Mets will be paying Francoeur this offseason.
His first base D isn't awful
And at this point its unlikely he wouldn’t be a better option, as a one year stop-gap, than Murphy.
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'
it's Omar's world, we're just livin in it.
UZR/150 didn't take to him kindly last year
Plus the fact that he is incredibly injury prone, and it just doesn’t sound like a good fit for an NL team.
A better fit for the Mets would be Russell Branyan who’s cheaper and still a good fielder.
One year of UZR data isn't worth much
One year of defensive data is equal to one third of a year’s worth of offensive data.
"I see the job in bigger terms. Paperwork, that’s false hustle... Know what I’m sayin’?"
His UZR only translated
to a -0.4 in fielding for WAR, which isn’t good but it’s not like we’re talking about someone who’s in the double digits in negative fielding value. And considering he’s been a + fielder most of his career I imagine it had more to do with missing a year than a major decline in skill. Though you’re right about his injury proneness, but really what do we have to lose? It’s not like we’ve got superior, or even equal, first base options lined up or that the cost was very steep.
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'
it's Omar's world, we're just livin in it.
The Yankees have a smart organization
beyond the money they’ve made some good moves, like this one, the trade for Swisher (3.5 WAR for $5.4 salary) and the Granderson trade (he’s getting $5.5 Million this year). We won’t make this kind of move because our GM is Omar and our Asst GM, who apparently is a “numbers guy” tells us to trade for Jeff Francoeur.

There is a chance
but given it’s the mets it’s hard to give them any kind of a benefit of the doubt.
remember this is the same front office who’s statistical analysis has led them to believe Bay is a better defender than Matt Holliday.

might work
I have heard runors about this on the net but haven’t seen anything on MLB Hot Stove. I think this might be a decent trade if we could get Arroyo and Phillips. While Arroyo isn’t an ace he is a solid #3 starter who would give us 200 IP and a 4.00-4.25 ERA, which could get us 12-15 wins. Phillips has shown some good pop but I have only seen a handful of games so I am not sure how he is in the field.
