Yankees Near Deal With Johnson
"The deal is now near completion, says Davidoff. Pending a physical, Johnson will agree to a one-year deal with the Yankees worth about $5.5MM." Why couldn't the Mets do this?

Cause the Yankees have an intelligent front office with a plan
we have Omar.
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'
it's Omar's world, we're just livin in it.
Also because Daniel Murphy is locked into first base

I am still bullish on Murphy
IF we upgrade at other spots as well.
Yeah but it seems like first would be the easiest/cheapest upgrade
or would have been. What other spots are there for us to upgrade now?

I mean considering who's on the market

cheapest maybe
but not really easier. I mean we have talked before about the fact that there is really no one availlable as a free agent at first base that would be a definite upgrade over Murphy. I mean Nick Johnson is better but he is always hurt.
The more I think about it, Omar and the Met’s greatest mistake in this error filled reign may have been not going after Tex before the Yankees got involved.
Oh I agree
I don’t think there was any excuse for not at least bidding on Tex, they showed absolutely no interest from the get go.

But I mean that's available on the market to upgrade

Piniero, Sheets, Holiday, Bay, Molina, Hudson, Nady, Garko, Jacobs, DeRosa....
Gas prices today are a lot like a pitcher's ERA. Anything under 3 is amazing, under 4 is pretty good and anything 5 and up is something you want to avoid.

I don't think I'd consider Molina, Nady, Garko or Jacobs
upgrades over anything we have. Plus three of those guys you mentioned are first basemen and I was asking what’s there that would be easier to upgrade than first base. So really there’s 2b, and I’m not sure how much of an upgrade Hudson is considering costs, and one of the corner spots and SP.

We have our Omar, and our Omar
I dislike our Omar.

you know what is really scary ?
I am starting to talk like that to people at work, and at home.
you know what I'm sayin' ?
I think he's gonna be their DH.
With Texiera, first is locked up. Texiera plays a lot, so Johnson probably won’t get too much playing time there. Being a DH probably is better for Johnson, since there will be less wear and tear on his body.

That seemed to be the speculation I read earlier.

-5.6 runs, -6.6 UZR/150 last year
Could be a one year fluke. Or it could be his knees falling apart on him, who knows.
Yeah
Maybe he almost preferred going to the AL to rest the ailing parts of his body?
