Milton Bradley traded for Carlos Silva
So what exactly would you be willing to send the Mariners to acquire Jack Zduriencik? This guy has been absolutely incredible since taking over the team.

That will be a fun team to watch next year.
Too bad it’s not the Mets.

Sure you do
But, with our luck, we end up sending Jose Reyes and $10 million to get Alfonso Soriano.

Seattle is def the team to beat in the West after this offseason.
Let’s see how the angles and rangers respond to these moves?
The Rangers don't really need to make a move
with all those prospects ready to explode out of their farm system they can probably afford to wait a year for the cheap production.
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'

all 4 teams
have some reason to watch this year. The A’s have some talented young pitchers and prospects coming on, Anderson, Carter, etc.. Rangers have Feliz, Martin Perez, Smoak, Andrus. Mariners have done a great job with the D heavy guys, now Figgins, Bradley to add to the 1-2 of Hernandez and Cliff Lee (yeah, they seem like team to beat now, although their hitting is still shy somewhat it seems). Angels have contended for a while now, although they are losing some guys like Figgins and lackey.
That's why I really don't understand this Lowell trade.
He doesn’t really fill a need, and he’s not a long term piece.

Bradley >>> Silva
Bradley is combustible and injury prone, but he also has a chance of playing well. Indeed, he was pretty amazing as recently as 2008. Silva is garbage.

Criticize him for dumb things he writes, but at least wait till he writes them. Bradley has a pretty bad reputation in the clubhouse, and it seems to be the reason the ubs want him gone.

Carlos Silva? WTF?
Seriously, how does this guy have a job? Yeah Bradley is nuts, but anyone is better than Silva.
I can’t even imagine any trade conversation that begins with, “I’d be willing to part with Carlos Silva for the right price.”
Kudos to the M’s front office, and it just re-iterates how depressing it is we have the village idiot as our GM.
Not really
I would put Dayton Moore, Ned Colletti, Brian Sabean ahead of Omar in the village idiot category.
You know, I really do not think that the Cubs had a choice. Bradley had to go. Yes, he is talented, but he worked himself into an untenable situation with the customers (fans). The guy was sent home before the season ended. Lou wanted nothing to do with him either. They simply had no choice. At least they save $6M.
I don’t think that the Cubs had any other option. Pat Burrell would have been useful, but the Rays would have forced them to pay Bradley’s salary for the last year of the contract.

by LeiterMilnerFasterStronger on Dec 19, 2009 3:25 PM EST up reply actions
Not really.
He’s very aggressive, but I wouldn’t call him good. He benifits from being in the worst division in the AL and having a big budget. He has one of the worst farm systems in all of baseball, and his trades to restock it have been fairly awful.

I hate to say, Count the Ring, but the pitching and defense
team he put together in 2004 bore fruit in 2005. It was a good plan, well executed. Sure he had some luck, but every team except the 1927 Yankees need some measure of luck to win the Series. I’d never argue that Kenny is the top GM in the game, and especially early on he made some boneheaded moves, but he gives the White sox every chance to win, whereas a clown like Omar gives the Mets every opportunity to lose, undermining a strong club with antiques like Julio Franco at 1b, insisting on playing Moises Alou without a strong back up plan, and so on.
Give the White Sox the Mets’ payroll and they’d be a perennial powerhouse. Not Theo and Boston good, but damned good.
by SeanSchirmer on Dec 21, 2009 1:41 AM EST up reply actions
I'm not at all sure this is a good move for the M's
and it wouldn’t surprise me if Z turned around and moved Bradley for a useful spare part. Why would you want to start your tenure with a team by bringing in the ML’s biggest headcase? This doesn’t fit in at all with the Mariners’ other moves.
by SeanSchirmer on Dec 19, 2009 5:42 AM EST up reply actions
cause silva sucks and is owed a lot of money
and bradley has been a near all-star worthy player as recently as 2008 and they need a DH?
"We have a plan, and our plan, I like our plan'
it's Omar's world, we're just livin in it.
Yeah, that's it, Gina.
No—bringing the biggest ******* in the game into your clubhouse isn’t a high-risk move?
But you’re selling Bradley short. His 2008 season with a 999 OPS+ isn’t an all-star season, it’s a HOF season. Put five of those in a row and while you’re a little short on PAs it’s a HOF-type peak.
I just wouldn’t want him in my clubhouse. On the other hand, if Bradley starts causing real problems and the Mariners are smart enough to cut him before things get out of hand then, yes, this could be a good move.
What’s the back up plan, though? Griffey as the regular DH? That’s not much of a Plan B.
by SeanSchirmer on Dec 21, 2009 1:45 AM EST up reply actions
In other words, if the Mariners on betting their season on Bradley they're in serious trouble,
but from what we’ve seen from them so far they have a good chance of getting this one right. Doesn’t mean I like it, though…

Nope my family immigrated to queens in the late 60s
and then moved to Long Island the same year the nets traded for Erving. So they were basically jumping on two bandwagons, the mets in 69 and the ABA championship the nets won with
funny how thats turned out for them 40 years later.

Long and suffering. Well, at least have given your family something to smile about in the 80’s and late 90’s.
I actually would pull for the Nets from time to time, all the while suffering through the tryanical rule of MJ on the NBA and the Knicks. Petrovick was my favorite on NBA live. I soured on them once Jason Kidd and co. used to go into the garden whip us all the while rubbing it in our face. I felt like they were taunting a special needs kid. There was no need. We sucked-still do but not nearly as bad- everyone knew it, why bother taunting?

Is Matt Holliday overrated?
Got these stats from a poster on BMF.
In 1352 ABs at Coors Field, he hit .333 with 84 HRs and 307RBIs…
In 1884 ABs away from Coors (that’s 531 more ABs) he has hit only .290 with 68 HRs and 285RBIs
Basically, that equals 1HR for every 16ABs at Coors and 1HR for every 28ABs away from Coors. That means that by following his career, in a 600AB season, Holliday is only good for 21HRs and 100RBIs away from Coors! That falls to even factor in what Citi Fields monster gaps.
"Never throw a slider to The Glider."
- Ed Charles, No. 5
That's also only factoring in offense.
And, not for nothing, but one home run on average every 28 ABs isn’t all that shabby.

Also, didn't this come up in another thread?
It looks like rockies players away from Coors are at a distinct disadvantage, since they have to adjust to pitch movement for the first game or two (or more) of every away series. If you drop the first 2 games after every Coors stint, I think his numbers level out significantly…
