Marchman: Murphy and Francoeur, pillars of success
Most Mets fans will probably be confused when the Mets finally have a good young player.

That's great.
I’d also like to see the lines for the average NL 1B and RF. I’m assuming that would make them look even worse.
The sad thing is...
that is probably a pretty generous line for Francoeur. If you told me right now that Mr. Grission would hit 18 HRs and slug .425, I would take it in a heart beat and call it a success (or at least not the unmitigated disaster that seems inevitable). I wouldn’t be surprised if Franceour’s line looks much worse than that. This also just beats to death the point of how badly this team needs a relaible slugging corner OF.
"when the Mets finally have a good young player"
Yeah, I hope we can get some to replace those stiffs at third and short…
But the writer’s point is a good one, obviously
Sam was obviously talkin about a minor leaguer coming up
Wright and Reyes are already veterans
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
is it that or was he making a joke?
I think we still remember what that feels like.

You guys are too hard
Give Murphy another season along with a RH veteran. His numbers will improve a great deal this season. he is young, cheap and improving.

He may be improving
But theres no reason to think he’ll improve enough to be better than a bench player.
The Mets are delusional
Murphy’s overall numbers (MiL + ML) didn’t/doesn’t at all justify a starting LF or 1B position. Murphy’s jump to anything resembling a league average 1B would have to come purely from a scouting perspective—which makes it improbable. Murphy should be in AAA.
I wonder what Omar’s and the Wilpon’s math grades were in school. All GMs and owners should take a course in statistics. What is their education anyways?

Omar regards education
as false hustle.
