This wouldn't be a bad buy low trade if it's true

assuming we actually sent players that would make it a buy low deal.

by Gina on Dec 7, 2009 11:30 AM EST reply actions

Gotta be Castillo doesn't it?

It would be pretty surprising if it wasn’t. And its fine if its the same thing as Willingham would have been and Swisher was to the Yankees, an early market gamble on a guy who’s perceived value was at an all time low. If he can be moved to 1B, who knows, but his projection is about as good as any 1B the Mets could get, and much better than anyone they have. Better than any LF they have, too, but not better than a lot of the LF on the market. It if means Hudson and Molina, yuck. If it means Hudson and Holliday is at least still possible, that would be excellent.

Agree

Burrell wouldn’t be a bad pick up if he’s given a shot at first or, failing success at that position, is used as a fourth outfielder. Unless Burrell can regain his power, I’d rather see Pagan or future acquisition starting in LF.

by englishgrey on Dec 7, 2009 11:48 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah that would be my concern

That rather than seeing Burrel as a 4th outfielder/possibly solution for 1b, they’d stick him in lf and we’d see 150+ games with Frenchy and Burrel manning the corners.

by Gina on Dec 7, 2009 11:50 AM EST up reply actions

If its Castillo for Burrell

I really don’t mind the trade too much. It would be an interesting sell high, buy low move. Having said that if they are getting burrell for LF as to save money to sign Lackey to a huge contract I hate the move.

by Balagast on Dec 7, 2009 11:38 AM EST reply actions

i heard another rumor about this being a possibilty a few days ago

i don’t necessarily mind it as long as they dont consider this LF problem solved. If we do dump castillo though, i don’t want to see a long term contract to Hudson. It wouldnt really surprise me if this trade were true though since its been discussed before.

This

will basically be the look on my face if we’re starting Pat Burrell and Jeff Francoeur in the corners on Opening Day 2010.

Castillo for Pat and then a long-term deal to O Dog puts them in a worse position than they’re already in. Wastes money on average players. I doubt they’d bring Burrell in to play 1B, and him in left would be a disaster. The only spot to make an offensive addition would then be first base (if it was Burrell in left, O Dog at second), and they’ve shown a complete unwillingness to do anything with first.

PhillyBurbs.com (the original source of this)...

is now reporting the info came from WIP (610 AM) in Philly.

I’m listening and…nothing yet.

by The 'Ropolitans on Dec 7, 2009 12:24 PM EST reply actions

It seems unlikely

Lots of other people are still writing about Bradley and Burrell as if they’re still being shopped.

WIP is the worst

it’s a bad rip-off of WFAN. And WFAN isn’t exactly good

For the love of god, NO

I handled Francoeur being on the Mets. Heck, I could handle Molina on the Mets.

But it will be a cold day in hell before I ever accept that filthy rat on this team.

NO, NO, and NO to Burrell.

no way

Rollins has to take it over Jeter.

by JayWise on Dec 7, 2009 1:38 PM EST up reply actions

Jeter to second?

Since it’s not like he should be playing ss anyway, though I do have quite a bit of pent of hate for Kelly Johnson relative to the number of times we’ve actually seen him.

by Gina on Dec 7, 2009 2:08 PM EST up reply actions

We know Jeter won't switch positions

despite being the best leader of all time. See Rodriguez, Alex.

by Mount17 on Dec 7, 2009 2:45 PM EST up reply actions

Oliver Perez is starting that game

my team would look like something like this:

Perez
Glavine
Smoltz
Clemens
Wainwright

Brian Bruney?
Rocker

Molina
Jeter
Larry
Cody Ross
Burrell
Dictorino…

Rollins on the bench…
GM Omar Minaya

Hey, maybe this deal makes sense.

I mean, Burrell seems like he’s really comfortable hitting at Shea. . .

Wait, uh, nevermind.

Probably not happening, ever

This from David Lennon’s Twitter feed:

Oh, and forget Burrell to #Mets – period. Source just said team not interested in him. Not in 3-way, not in any way.

Fine by me.

BTW

The new Mets-centric Twitter tab on the Metsblog homepage is actually useful. Kudos to Cerrone on creating something somewhat innovative. The homepage still looks a bit awkward to me, but it’s definitely a cleaner, crisper design.

Good!

A Carter/Tatis and even a Murphy/Evans platoon projects (acc to BJames) as better than Burrell in 2010.

It occurred to me too late in my AAOP but Polanco was the perfect pickup for the Mets, even if they had to go to 3/19. Castillo is the backup, Adam Kennedy is the cheap glove for depth, Polanco is a GG or nearly so at three or the four shakiest positions on the team: 3b, ss, 2b. And there would have been no reason to resign Alex Cora!

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

(click to embiggen)
Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
