Mets acquire Edwin Jackson?
Not sure what to think of this if it's true

They could certainly do worse
But whats the cost? I just hope its not Bartolo Colon all over again.

Typical Omar buy-high

That's the fear
What are the chances this is a blockbuster and we’re getting Granderson too? That’s the only way I could see the cost being justified, and it would be a high cost.

thats too much to hope for
Granderson would be great, and Jackson isn’t bad, but this would likely cost us a small fortune in players.

He clarified with another tweet
here that it was a rumor he heard in the lobby, nothing remotely official though.

ChrisCarlin and Ken Davidoff have just debunked this on twitter
Thank god, I want no part of Jackson

He isn't, and has never been that good.
His career FIP is 4.72, tRa is 5.22, and he had never been a decent pitcher until the first half of this year, which was in large part thanks to a large amount of luck, which showed in the 2nd half.
Most of all, his price wouldn’t be that of a #4 starter, it would be of a #2 or #3, and I know Omar is stupid enough to pay that kind of price for him.

A low-cost, young, legit #2 or 3 SP we can control for a few years?
Yeah, who would want that.
If it’s a deal where we have to take on a bad contract like Bonderman for a year, it could be a canny long-term move. Obviously if it requires gutting our farm system, it’s self-defeating. But there’s a chance that a deal like this could make sense.
Let’s see the details (if it happens at all) before judging it.

I think the problem is
Unless the Tigers were getting a kings ransom for him why would they trade him? He’s one of the few young cheap and relatively controllable, I think he’s entering arbitration, players they have.

Right
I think the way you get him is he comes coupled with a bad contract (and Detroit has many of them). So if you agree to take a Bonderman or Guillen, you get Jackson. Bonderman is more palatable because he’s off the books after 2010 (and is a decent back of the rotation contender).
I got a bit carried away earlier in calling E-Jax a legit 2 or 3. I think at this point, he’s more of a 3. But he’s only 26, cheap, under control for a few years. Better to go after him, I think, than a middle of the line FA option coming off a career year who will require $20-30 million (Marquis, Pineiro, etc).

Why not both?
We need two starters. I can live with an addition of Jackson and Marquis.

I just heard on the radio there are 12 teams interested, so I would say "NO".
you know what I'm sayin' ?

This would be good
Edwin Jackson was nasty this year and if you also take a flier on Bedard I can accept this as long as they still spend
by SAL R on Dec 7, 2009 6:38 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
eh
a 5.62era after the break isn’t nasty, nor is the .281 BABIP which points to a 4+era in 2010. he’s allright but nothing worth going nuts for and if the tigers are asking for brandon morrow+ for him then count me out.

I would
draft him again for fantasy BB, and think his numbers woud imporve at Citi Field
by SAL R on Dec 7, 2009 11:21 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah but so would a number of pitchers
No reason to give up more for him when Citi field will make other cheaper pitchers, in terms of prospect cost, look just as good.
