Bringing in the fences at Citi Field
would probably attract Power Hitting Free Agents then scare them away
Doesn't anyone think the Mets should announce that they are bringing in the fences so it would'nt discourage a Power bat from coming Here? Really why would a Matt Holliday sign here and watch his power numbers decline? Plus if your trying to make a trade why would someone with a no-trade clause apporve it to this God-awful abassy of a field. Yeah Dimensions might be good for Juan Pierre( and heard he's rumored for Castillo) but Seriously announcing it before the winter meeting makes sense.

I dont think this warrants a fanshot.
But good use of the break just in case this gets bumped to the main page.

just saying
If I were Matt Holliday why would I sign to come to Citi Field and watch my numbers suffer and if I was a player with a no trade clause why would I waive it?
And Yes should be a fan post
And when David Wright has 10 Hrs ALL season yea I think its a problem and Yes Citi eats HR’s at least to Met Players they do.
thats not a stadium problem
thats a talent problem, paired with Hojo messing up Wrights swing. Park factor has Citi as being dead center in the middle for home run potential.

No, there's no proof that Citi eats home runs.
B-ref ranks it as a 98 for both batters and hitters. One season by a single player does not mean that Citi Field is a magical, home-run devouring monster. There’s plenty of other reasons for FAs to avoid the Mets: dysfunctional management, an at-best-semi-competent front office, and so on.
And no, it shouldn’t be a FanPost. You clearly don’t know what goes into a FanPost. There’s no analysis, no links to anything, no thought at all other than the bare minimum of neurological contractions necessary to type this up. Something with so little content should be a FanShot, if it belongs anywhere at all.

For the sake of reference
There were 5 NL ballparks that yielded lower HR/G: Turner Field, Petco Park, Dodger Stadium, Busch Stadium, and AT&T field. Being that the Mets as a team were dead last in MLB HR, I think its pretty safe to conclude that CitiField was in 2009 more HR friendly than any of those stadiums.

If we move in the walls who is to say it won't scare off free agent pitchers?
Gas prices today are a lot like a pitcher's ERA. Anything under 3 is amazing, under 4 is pretty good and anything 5 and up is something you want to avoid.
i dont
really see it being a problem attracting power hitters. for one, every legit power hitter (ryan howard, adam dunn, mark reynolds, etc) has no problem hitting here. for two, this is going to be the biggest contract matt holiday ever signs in his career, and the last one of any real substance for him. as far as contracts go, he’ll already have earned however many 100 millions he makes before he even picks up the bat, so frankly it doesn’t matter to him how many he hits because the money is guaranteed. it might matter if he was interested in trying to pad stats for the hall of fame, but i don’t think he has a shot at that either.
yes
moving in the fences will scare all those great 3rd tier free agent pitchers that well end up with, Really I don’t think Doug davis will mind it one bit
again, you're grammar is awful
"We're investigating the investigative procedure of the investigation of Tony Bernazard"---Omar Minaya (he really didn't say it but he would"

you are right about Matt Holliday already cashing in but is he willing to go to a club where his numbers will suffer and have the added pressure of listening to the media everynight and also the added weight as being the “savior” so to speak Just a factor that I think would scare away some potiental free agents even if the money is there. If the mets offer same amount as say the Cardinals or Boston where do u think he would go? I know where i would

Somehow I don't think Matt Holliday, or any player, would be a "savior" to the Mets...
Since the team already has Wright, Beltran, Reyes, and Santana.
A “savior” would be competent management that can find competent and cheaper mid-level players to complement them. In addition, these superstars would not have backups that are replacement level and cost ~2mm.

actually
I see the cleverness of this fanpost now. You have to read it carefully, but look:
“bringing in the fences at citi field would probably attract Power Hitting Free Agents then scare them away”
Now, on first glance, that sentence doesn’t make any sense. Why would it attract them and then scare them away? But on closer analysis, look at the next sentence (after the break):
“Doesn’t anyone think the Mets should announce that they are bringing in the fences”
See, SAL R here isn’t saying the Mets should actually bring in the fences, he’s just saying they should announce that they are bringing in the fences. SAL R knows that Citi Field was actually pretty neutral last year, but thanks to lazy sportswriters and David Wright’s 10 HR, everyone thinks it was the Grand Canyon, which means power hitters might be scared away. So by announcing they are bringing in the fences but actually leaving them alone, the power hitters will decide to sign here while the ballpark can remain pretty neutral, allowing us to build a more complete baseball team.
Bravo, SAL R, bravo.

I don’t know if I’m offended more as a Latino, or as someone who speaks the English language. Also, if Omar is stocking the roster with Latinos, shouldn’t they be able to understand each other? I know there’s small differences between PR Spanish and Venezuelan Spanish, but it’s pretty much the same thing. I think there’s no language barrier between Castillo, Santana, and Delgado.

CITIFIELD is terrible for power hitters….I saw david WRIGHT absolutely crush a ball to
dead center and it would have been a home run in every park in America!!! The ball
hit that part of the centerfield wall that for some reason juts up / raises higher than the
rest of the fence in that part of the park.. and I thought SHEA robbed hitters of homers…..
Wrigley is 353/355 down right field line; how many homers would JETER have hit for the
CUBBIES???? THE METS NEED TO BRING THE FENCES IN…..in the early 1980’s
yankee stadium was 430 in left/center/center field….that’s crazy….and as such, citi is totally unfair also.
in that respect..make it playable….
wait
even assuming, arguendo, that the rest of what you said is true, what the hell does Derek Jeter and Wrigley Field have to do with anything? This just lacks coherency of any sort

On topic, non-inflammitory post!
The walls in Citi Field should be lowered. I don’t really care about the home run part (though, friggin’ Pelfrey hit a ball off the top of a wall this season that should have been a home run), but high walls means Endy-like catches are impossible forever more. Lower them to circa the 8’-10’ mark, and you preserve the chance for such catches.

the walls are a touch on the high side
i think it makes a lot more sense to lower them than move them in. Keeps the potential for tons of triples alive. Really though they dont absolutely need to change them at all IMO.

What
We cant be real here and have ballz and talk about how we really feel about the Mets? O that’s in the FANGRAPHS section ok
Ok lets be real about this
Here’s a post from Meddler the other day.
I count 39 guys on the 40-man roster right now
15 of Latin American heritage
24 American born Caucasian
0 Black
0 Asian
Thats about 38% to 62%. The estimated breakdowns for the entire league are as follows:
White: 60%
Latin American: 29%
Black: 8%
Asian: 3%
So basically, the Mets have four more Latin American players on their 40 man roster than the average MLB team, a typical number of white players, three fewer black players, and one fewer Asian players.
Clearly, undeniable evidence that Omar has a Latin bias.
"I see the job in bigger terms. Paperwork, that’s false hustle... Know what I’m sayin’?"
And
that’s why the Mets will never win under Omar, Its like he’s giving a hand out to his friends and not looking out for the best option for the team!
"Omar's guys" =/= Latin American players
We already have a list of “Omar’s guys”. 99.9% of them are/were Montreal Expos.
Brian Schneider was among them. Schneider isn’t a very Hispanic name.

no I am half spanish so I can say what I feel. And they will never win with Omar leading the way. Its not about the ratio with white guys if anything they are more unathletic, its about the Mets culture in the clubhouse and team chemistry and they have no of them.

You have to give....
CitiField three years before you say that it eats HRs. I wouldn’t blame the ballpark for David Wright’s bad year, he was messed up in more ways than one.
First, we need to fire Omar and get rid of Jerry before things get better. I was never impressed by what he did when he was in Chicago with the White Sox, they won once in 4 years. He knows squat about manipulating a bullpen and a roster.
Hooray for lucid and grounded commets!
Even in this miserable offseason, I still think I loathe Jerry more than Omar. At least Omar has some kind of redeeming qualities that don’t include “ability to appear thoughtful in Buddy Holly glasses”. I still don’t think he’s a good GM, but at least he gives himself a chance to get lucky every now and then with a solid scouting decision and buy-low gamble. Jerry doesn’t even do that, he just comes up with these strange, counter-intuitive tactical decisions that seem to have more to do with “owning” the team than running it well.
