Mets Sign Mike Hessman

The Mets signed corner-infielder Mike Hessman to a 90K, minor league contract. He's one of the biggest three-true-outcome hitters in baseball, a Russell Branyan/Jack Cust-type who can absolutely crush minor league pitching. His last three wOBAs in the minors were .383, .414, and .342. He'll improve a Buffalo offense that was anemic last season, and gives the Mets much needed firstbase depth.

hessman

hit an absolute moon shot off of pelfrey in a ST game i was at in lakeland back in ’06. it was pretty amazing.

but between him and carter, first base in buffalo should be covered for about the next 5 years. and regarding that, is anyone else like really pissed/not surprised at all that theo played omar for a fool so damn badly and now has the #20 and #30something pick in the june draft?

figured as much

busy the last couple weeks. plus i’m still stewing about it so it’s tough to let it go.

I'm pissed too

I was mad when the Mets gave up Wagner for next to nothing, was even more mad when Wagner proved that he is still good, was even more mad when he was offered arbitration and got even more mad when the Braves sign him right away for 7 million. Do the Mets still think he is old and uncapable?

Gas prices today are a lot like a pitcher's ERA. Anything under 3 is amazing, under 4 is pretty good and anything 5 and up is something you want to avoid.

Also a little third base depth,

that we hopefully won’t need.

the number one issue facing the Mets is finding that one guy who’s going to say "get on my shoulders and ride me to the championship."

OT, but...

…Metsblog sez the Braves DFA’d Ryan Church. FWIW…

I thought he only liked the Denver school systems…

Oh, Mike Hessman.

Hessman has

311 minor league homers. We just signed Crash Davis!

Dang.

For a second there, I thought we had signed Dr. Johnny Fever.

I thought

Ike Davis would get the starting job in AAA to mature him for the ML. Would Hessman be there to mentor him? And whats with Chris Carter then? What was the point of trading Wagner for a guy who will never play beyond AAA?

This is where Omar makes me angry, all these players and no sense of direction.

Can Hesman play another corner spot?

Also Davis may start in AA, OR they’ll take my advice and try him out in a corner outfield spot.

Ike-1B
Hessman-3B
Chris Carter- pretend it never happened/ML bench

don't they have a DH in the IL?

It mirrors the home club

so any home games+away games against other NL affiliates=no DH

ah, ok

Did anyone else think of the Hess Truck commericals when they read his name?

Or was it just me?

Going faster this year, the Hess trucks here!!!

I feel pretty stupid right now

But I have never heard of Mike Hessman.

We are corner the market in AAAA hitters. We should bring in Valentino Pascucci while we are at it.

Ha!

Where have you gone JP?

He was probably close to coming back, then we scared him off with the Lastings Milledge trade poll of a few weeks ago.

If I were a minor league hitter

I would want a stat line like Hessman’s. BOOM.

I love this signing. My friend and I would always draft Mike Hessman in The Show or any other baseball thing just because of his sideburns.
