1B "Scooping" Ability
Interesting article about the ability and subsequent value of 1B scooping at FanGraphs by Michael Lichtman from a couple days ago. He acknowledges the flaws of the methodology, but explains in pretty good detail the gist of the analysis.
Crux: scooping is probably a quarter of a firstbaseman's defensive value while fielding grounders provides the majority of worth.
Leaders: Berkman and Choi at 4 runs per 1000 throws , while Thome is at the bottom with -2.5 runs per 1000 throws.
I mention this because I was one of those guys who rationaled away not getting Delgado the first time around in favor of Mein-whats-his-name for all "the errors he would save." As usual, joke's on me.

You're not the first to make that mistake
Won’t be the last, either. Per Google there have been 38 instances of “Michael Lichtman” +UZR in an article.

Also missed due to contacts:
Thome wasn’t the worst, Eric Karros and Mo Vaughn were.
