Amazin Avenue Fantasy League #2?

It seems like there were a lot of people interested in the first one so I was thinking of making a second one if enough people want to join.

It'll be on Yahoo and the live draft is scheduled for Thursday March 5 at 8:00pm EST.

The settings are currently:

  • 12 teams
  • Rotisserie scoring
  • 5x5 scoring(BA, HR, RBI, SB, R, W, ERA, WHIP, SV, K)
  • Positions: C,1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL

If more people want Head to Head scoring I'll change it.

To join click here and enter in 71492 as the League ID and metsin09 as the password. The first 11 people to join will be in.

BobbyV I hate to be that guy but...

I just called work to check that day. I’m working the 5th, 6th, 7th 2pm – 10pm. Can we bump draft day up one to March 4th? Pretty please?

Oh dear god...

For the love of Christ!!! In my haste I thought this was Bobby’s league. WTF??!!

Well supermets I’ll delete my team because I don’t want to take up another place for prospective AA contributors who didn’t get a chance in Bobby’s league.

I’m sincerely sorry for the complete cluster .uck!

If not enough people want in, I volunteer.

I’ll happily join, but I’ll let others who didn’t get into Bobby’s league go first.

I'll join if it's going to be head-to-head.

Also, would prefer a different draft time, but I can deal if that’s not doable.

I'll come out and say it

I hate fantasy baseball. I love drafting teams, but once that’s done, I really don’t find it even remotely enjoyable. I don’t have the attention span to keep up with a fantasy baseball team, and I just don’t like the overall structure of it. I like fantasy football a lot, but I just don’t think it translates well to other sports. I’d much rather participate in like a Diamond-Mind or Strat-O-Matic league.

That said, if this league ends up needing one or two people to get off the ground, I’d be willing to take a team – I just can’t promise I’ll keep up with it much past the all-star game.

Yep

I’ve got severe ADHD when it comes to fantasy baseball.

'Oh yes, I know all about that duty-of-a-citizen stuff. It doesn't go. There are exceptions to every rule, and this was one of them. When a man risks his liberty to come and root at a ball-game, you've got to hand it to him. He isn't a crook. He's a fan.'

Wow...This totally miffs me.

The vast majority of you fine fellas love to gibber jabber day in and day out about stats (even during the off season…ugh) yet, you can’t find enjoyment in tinkering everyday with a team of your own? Your decisions along with the results of how real people are actually performing in the real world effect your club everyday. You’re the manager!

In football you basically are making decisions once a week and have to wait for results once a week as well. To each his own. I don’t think F-ball can touch b-ball as far as fantasy goes.

I love stats

and more than that, I love baseball. It’s my favorite sport. But I just don’t have the attention to detail requisite for fantasy baseball. Despite my best intentions, I have trouble remembering to adjust my lineup/pitchers on a daily basis, at least until after that days slate of games has begun, at which point it’s impossible to change them (my biggest pet peeve). I don’t have the patience to keep up with it, and realize that my second basemen won’t be playing tonight b/c his team is facing a lefty and he just needs a rest.

With football, you have a whole week to study the matchups and decide who to start. Do you start your RB who gets 80% of the carries but is going against the Steelers defense, or your RB who only gets 40% of the carries but is going against the Lions? You have a week to decide and then are bound by your choice, which I find much more preferable. Fantasy baseball just feels like throwing a bunch of stuff at the wall and hoping it sticks. I love the idea of managing a real baseball team on a day-in day-out basis, which is why I love Strat-o-Matic and games like that, but I just can’t get into fantasy baseball.

Ooohhhh. I see.

Fantasy baseball is like daily prayer for me (if I prayed). The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is to see how my team fared the night before. I check to see if someone was injured, in a slump, on a hot streak etc. and then I make the adjustments right then and there. I don’t get into all of the silly details like some. For instance:

This guy that I first started playing with would look at information such as: This left handed pitcher will be going up against a majority of righty batters, at night, on astroturf, with a full moon, with a 45% chance of rain and the tide ebbing instead of flowing. You get the picture. The guy was ridiculous w/this kind of information. I played with him for three years. He never finished better than 3rd.

Even though I won't be a part of this league...

I would recommend to you (cjmurlain) that if you take responsibility of a team that you keep up with it. There’s nothing worse than a guy who picks up a team and doesn’t maintain it. It actually does effect the outcome of the other teams and could have ramifications for the entire season. Just some sage advice from someone who has…BEEN EFFECTED FROM MO-FO’S WHO DON’T KEEP UP WITH THEIR TEAMS!!!!!!!!

I would be willing to change it to H2H if people really want. I’ve always done H2H before, but I decided to change it up a little bit.

Reply to this post to vote H2H or roto.

Hey SuperMets

Can you change the league name to AMAZIN AVENUE LEAGUE #2? You can already see how f’n confused I get. Bobby’s league is AMAZIN AVENUE LEAGUE as well. I’ve got a job, I’m taking two classes, no significant other to speak of (unless you count my internet connection as a significant other), managing eight now nine fantasy teams!

SUMTHIN’S GOTTA GIVE MAN!

" That will be enough Mr. Selig. Thank you. "

Brother...

That’s why I need to get back to San Diego. There, I had a life.

…And I was much slimmer.
