Mets Roster Projections
I was trying to mix and match, and make the best possible 25-man roster for the Mets, of course, with players under contract.
Catchers (2):
Brian Schneider
Ramon Castro
Infielders (6):
Carlos Delgado
Luis Castillo
Jose Reyes
David Wright
Marlon Anderson
Alex Cora
Outfielders (5):
Ryan Church
Carlos Beltran
Daniel Murphy
Fernando Tatis
Angel Pagan
Starting Pitchers (5):
Johan Santana
Mike Pelfrey
Oliver Perez
John Maine
Freddy Garcia
Relief Pitchers (7):
Tim Redding
Brian Stokes
Sean Green
Pedro Feliciano
Duaner Sanchez
J.J. Putz
Francisco Rodriguez
Any objections?

Yes
Marlon Anderson should be under “Jettisoned Out To Sea”, not “Infielders”.
Bobby Parnell may be preferable to Brian Stokes.
I'd like to make room for both Parnell and Stokes
but realize that may not be possible barring injury to somebody else.
Agreed
Marlon Anderson is preferable to no one. Also, does he still count as an INF? Over the past 2 seasons, he’s played just 2 games at 2B and 9 at 1B. I don’t think we really have a backup first baseman. Again.

Also, I think Redding's the leading candidate for the #5 spot.
Isn’t Garcia on a minor league contract? I know he can win the job, but right now, Redding is the front-runner by default.

It seems more like Garcia is the leading candidate for the 5th spot
And Redding is likely to end up as a long man.
Heriberto Ruelas ftw

Hopefully Castro doesn't get moved
A bench of Cancel, Tatis/Murphy, Cora, Pagan and Marlon Anderson isn’t exactly inspiring.
Don't worry
After Castro is traded and Church gets hurt the bench will be Cancel, Tatis, Cora, Anderson and Cory Sullivan.
Brian Schneider
any list with him on it, let alone as a starter isn’t really the best possible 25 man roster for the Mets. But you probably knew that already.
Schneider
did have a WARP of 2.3 in 384 PA (.599/100 PA) last season. Chris Iannetta had a 3.8 WARP, Carols Ruiz had a .2, Jesus Flores had a .1, Yaider Molina 3.3, and Castro .8 in 157 PA (.510/100 PA.) I think a healthy Castro given regulary PAs would be the Mets best option but let’s face it, that’s probably never going to happen. Schneider isn’t a top catcher and I think it would help the Mets to give Castro more playing time, especially against LHP, but it’s not like Schneider is shit.
I beg to differ
not only was he a weak hitter, his defense was far far less than what was advertised. I will say this in his defense, he did come up with one of the bigger hits of the season(or at least would have been if not for the bullpen collapse), that two run double to win a game against the Phillies in late August
Yeah, he was not so great.
He wasn’t bad or anything, but I really hope Josh Thole makes big strides this year.
But after all, I can’t hate Brian after this.

haha that's a great commercial
I’ve never seen that, which makes sense considering I live in DC. I don’t think Schneider’s awful, I think he’s pretty much a league average catcher, partially just b/c catcher is by far the worst position in the league.
Thole
I don’t know if this is what you’re saying, but don’t get your hopes up and expect Thole to break the bigs this year.
Who's world is it? It's yours.
No, I really mean for NEXT year.
Hopefully 2010 he can produce in one way or another so we don’t have to commit much to one of the weak catchers of next years class.

This isn't entirely related but does anyone else not understand this quote?
Manuel also said he is looking to get Schneider a lot more at bats, but this doesn’t mean that if Castro gets hot he won’t put him in.
umm . . .
get Schneider a lot more at bats than Castro? Or maybe just as a general proposition for the season?

Oh well that's a whole other level.
I’m not sure any of us understand that.
