An injury already? Are you kidding?
In Tim Redding's haste to be...The 5th man, it seems as if the go-getter has injured his shoulder while trying to make up for lost time 'not' throwing due to healing from a previous injury (stress fracture in 2nd toe on left foot). As the vast majority here know, I'm not one to see the glass half full. But, I truly wanted to start this season off with the right attitude. The attitude of a positive person with confidence in his favorite baseball team. But whoa is me. The frost has yet to dissipate from the grass and already the injury bug has bitten. Is this a prelude of things to come?
The following quote, attributable to last season's toe injury just kills me: "I never said anything about it, because I take pride in taking the mound every fifth day." Ah! Someone would refer to him as gritty, gutsy, spirited, resolute and unyielding. C'MON man! Pitchers are as fragile as china dolls. If you're hurt, get yourself taken of and then come back. GEEBUS!

eh
you’re gonna see little injuries like this in every camp, the soreness/tightness injuries. i mean off the top of my head i know damaso marte is having hamstring problems in yankee camp and papi has already missed a couple days over in red sox camp.
the odds of making it through an entire camp without any injuries are pretty slim. now if its a serious, season-altering injury then complain all you’d like but this is more nit-picking.

laughable
Yeah…The first report of Big Papi’s injury was that he slept wrong on his shoulder and he’d be o.k. after a day. Two days later? Nada! I’m quite sure a substantial number of players have aches and pains but when it comes to pitcher’s; shoulders and elbows, well then, I’ve got a problem. Of all the players on the team, the pitcers are the most fragile. They try to “tough” it out through an injury and the next thing you know, they injure something else.
ALL ATHLETES DO THIS. They over compensate another part of their body by limiting the stress on the part that is injured and as a result, injure something else. If I own/manage a ballclub and I’m paying people good money to be play hard, I want them to be smart doing it. There’s no need to do ‘possible’ serious damage to yourself by “toughing” it out. The player only makes the situation worse for himself AND the team.

This is nice
Except that people say this and then bitch and moan about Beltran taking a day off because his legs hurt.

There will be no bitching from this end.
Only moaning.

Hmm, this is a bit disconcerting.
This sounds to be a bit more than someone like Papi having some kind of phantom injury because he wants a break. Redding is competing for the 5th starter spot and probably rushed back to make sure he is on a level playing field.
Hopefully it isn’t anything serious and he shows more patience.

It's ok.
I hope/expect Garcia to get the 5th spot anyway, and if Redding needs to go to the DL, Brian Stokes can be our long man, no problem.

Yeah
Considering the wealth of long men/spot starters we have (Stokes, Knight, Figgy, et al), we shouldn’t be worried about Redding needing a few extra days to get himself right, especially not this early. Now, if this becomes a trend and Elmer Dessens or Casey Fossum start getting some serious innings, then we’re in trouble.

I'd be worried
if we started to see a trend of the pitchers going out with weird twinges in their shoulders after throwing drills, or batters coming up with some sort of repetitive motion injury from the 80-pitch hitting drill. This doesn’t appear to be something that occurred as a result of the training program; it is just something Redding probably did by rushing himself back. As many have pointed out, we are well-covered if he’s out for an unreasonable amount of time.
'Oh yes, I know all about that duty-of-a-citizen stuff. It doesn't go. There are exceptions to every rule, and this was one of them. When a man risks his liberty to come and root at a ball-game, you've got to hand it to him. He isn't a crook. He's a fan.'

"Worry when someone good gets hurt."
I guess some of us just like Flushing money down the toilet.
