Wow.
Go the Irish Hammer. I really hope he proves his mettle.
We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!
also:
This is the clearest illustration yet of the difference between Manuel and Randolph. Never in a million years would Willie take a chance like this on a rookie. I like the stones on this Manuel guy.

Willie definitely would have preferred Bob Murphy in left field.
Or, if he wanted to sign someone who is still alive, Dale Murphy.
'Oh yes, I know all about that duty-of-a-citizen stuff. It doesn't go. There are exceptions to every rule, and this was one of them. When a man risks his liberty to come and root at a ball-game, you've got to hand it to him. He isn't a crook. He's a fan.'

Bob!
Maybe in honor of Murph, the Irish Hammer can drink a few Rheingold beers before every inning.
"The people of Houston are spending money like oil's selling at $40 a barrel."
I honestly pumped my fist and said, "YES!"
Prepare for death by Irish Steel.
I agree with king on the difference between manager styles, and I like this (honey) bunches (of oats).
….What?
"But it's not over yet, everybody thinks it over, but if we can just get the Earth to reverse rotation...this thing can be played again. So there you go, New York Mets......motherf*ckers." - Jon Stewart
I have some concerns about this.
1. Jerry is sowing an awful lot of FUD about Church in that article, which is okay if he’s just trying to light a fire under him in spring training, but not okay at all if it means he has a reason to be concerned. Are we really okay with the pronouncement that Murphy is going to out-hit Church, or that Jerry’s not sure Church will return to form this year?
2. Is Evans just getting buried in AAA this year? I thought he’d make a good right-handed platoon partner, but he’s disappeared from the outfield on that mets.com depth chart. No mention of his name in the linked article, or really anywhere else in the last few weeks.
Evans needs to work on hitting ML RHP
I like Evans a lot, but he needs regular work, platooning him this early in his career against the minority of pitchers probably would hamper his development. Also, I wouldn’t read into the mets.com depth chart, it’s far from official.
My concerns
I’m generally happen to hear this. But on days when the Mets have to face a lefty, the thought of a Tatis/Murphy combo in the corners is kind of scary. I think Beltran is going to have to Kelly Leak it.
Murphy could end up being a decent defensive outfielder
I don’t completely trust total zone but according to their ratings Murphy wasn’t a butcher with the glove, at any position he played, he was pretty much right above or right below average.
I kinda wish Jerry Manuel would just shut his mouth
It’s February 22nd. Yeah, maybe he’s trying to “light fires” under players but it seems like every other day he has some bold, headline worthy pronouncement when it’s really not necessary at this stage.

The more Manuel opens his mouth
the less time reporters will spend asking the players about the collapse of the past two years, how they feel about philly, how they feel about arod, etc. I think it’s good to have a manager that’s a headline maker, Randolph didn’t do that, which meant more prodding by reporters and more negative stories. For all his talk, I think it’s best to reserve judgment until Manuel starts making actually decisions in games.
True, good points
For the record I like Manuel. A heckuva lot more than Willie.

Very good point
I hope Jerry is good distraction. But really Im shocked anyone is covering the Mets. I thought all the media covered A-Rod these days.
"The people of Houston are spending money like oil's selling at $40 a barrel."
like they have something else newsworthy to cover
he is going with Sean “Oscar” Penn’s ex and has converted to Kabbalah
Excellent point
There is a method to Jerry’s madness.
I still do wonder about his “stats don’t matter” position though haha
