At this point in the baseball calendar, there is never an unhappy recap. Like an Obama rally, hope dominates the baseball cyberworld. Let's see how I feel after I lose the drawing for Opening Day tickets.
Around Port St. Lucie
A day after declaring a platoon in right field, the story of the day is Manuel clearing the air with Ryan Church. This seems like a blown up Spring Training controversy. This team has some options in the outfield and an outright competition is not a bad thing. I expect Church and Murphy to both be the starters, when all is said and done, but in the meantime Manuel seems to be just tweaking his players.
We'll have to take no-hitters wherever we can find them. Even if they're only a for a few innings in an intrasquad game.
Meet your new third base coach.
Who is going throw out Citi Field's first pitch? This seems like a reasonable suggestion.
More thoughts on the difference between Willie's Camp and Jerry's. I'm not sure how many of these differences are pure Spring Training news fluff, or are legit. The only way to know is to wait until October, I guess.
NL East News
Ugh. Thank God I don't have MLB Network. I can't afford the number of vomit bags that that show would require. I wonder what they would've called a show about the 2008 Mets bullpen.
Why am I still terrified of the Braves? It's like I have a deeply ingrained muscle memory that tells me that every player they get off the scrap heap is going to come back and haunt me.
The Phillies fall behind in the horse race for Nomar.
Seems Mets fans aren't the only ones regretting missing out on Orlando Hudson.
I wouldn't hold my breath for any new information as a result of this.
There really hasn't been a ton of press for this year's WBC.
A vote in the House of Representatives for the District of Columbia may be near.
