Mets Geek: The Curious Case of Nicholas Evans
I just wanted to point out this article on Nick Evans over at MetsGeek, written by your very own Sokojoe. He compares the development and futures of Daniel Murphy and Evans. Check it out.

Nice piece
I hope Evans gets the opportunity to make positive contributions this year as an all-purpose right-handed bat off the bench. Alternatively, I hope he doesn’t get stuck on the bench and maybe starts out in Buffalo so he can play every day and, selfishly, I’d get to watch him out on the field.
And, hey, let’s not belittle the other Nick Evans. According to Wikipedia, some rugby commentators consider him the #2 fly-half in the world (disclaimer: I have no idea what this even means).
'Oh yes, I know all about that duty-of-a-citizen stuff. It doesn't go. There are exceptions to every rule, and this was one of them. When a man risks his liberty to come and root at a ball-game, you've got to hand it to him. He isn't a crook. He's a fan.'

Haha
I was thinking that same thing
“Nick Evans won the plaudits when he came up against fellow All Blacks first five-eighths Carlos Spencer in the English Premiership”
I know those words are English but they lose me pretty quickly.

Obligatory Simpsons reference:
Homer: Can you believe they gave Giggs a yellow card in the box?!
Marge: Do you understand any part of what you just said?
Homer: I understand the word “gave”…unless it means something else in this country!

Scouts don't seem to like Evans very much
Doesn’t anyone have any insight into why? I’ve mostly heard stuff about them not liking his approach.

I really hope
it’s not some wishy-washy bullshit like “he doesn’t look like he means business like Murphy does”

Well it wasn't just traditional scouts
Kevin Goldstein wasn’t a fan either.

Well.
Just watching them both in the majors last year, Evans looked a bit overmatched. He consistently went oppo with his hits and didn’t pull the ball much. Murphy seemed to have a better grasp of the strike zone and looked like he had better pitch recognition. He also has a nicer stroke and was able to spray the ball all over the field.
Of course, Evans is still only 23, so the counter would be that it’s probably easier to learn to pull the ball more and the game will probably slow down for him a bit.

Nice article, sokojoe
Is “sweet lew is an unapologetic conservative” our Lou? Because that shit doesn’t fly over here. I’m at least going to need an apology!

Soko, nice article.
A quibble, however. Don’t tell me Evans isn’t a good looking ballplayer:

I mean, mancrush? My girlfriend thinks he’s pretty good looking, haha.

That's a real good picture of him, but when's on the field

as opposed to Danny Baseball’s look of confidence

By no means do I’m I saying the dude is bad looking, just Murphy combined with his nice batting stance and well publicized work ethic looks straight up typecasted as an extra in a baseball movie as opposed to Evans.

But what about David?

clearly the best looking man in the Major Leagues
my girlfriend is not only allowed to sleep with him if she has the opportunity, I encourage it. As long as she gets me good seats. For the games, not the act, you sick bastards.
