Cohen: Best announcer in New York? (all sports)

I would say yes.
'Oh yes, I know all about that duty-of-a-citizen stuff. It doesn't go. There are exceptions to every rule, and this was one of them. When a man risks his liberty to come and root at a ball-game, you've got to hand it to him. He isn't a crook. He's a fan.'

yeah, MLB really should hire him for the playoffs, for either TV or radio
He has such knowledge of all of baseball, and he’s right on top of every call. It’s a shame that they don’t. He’s 100 times more professional than just about every clown they run out there.
We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

Fran Healy ftw!
“Well that’s a Can O’ Corn to Payton, you know Payton [Camera shot of Art Howe] there’s Art Howe! Payton grew up [camera shot shot of Mr. Met] there’s Mr Met! Payton grew up in Zanesville, Ohio home of the famous Y-Bridge…”

I love the double "outta here"
When there’s a big HR like Beltran’s 2-out, 9th inning grand slam last season. Gary walks the fine line between homerism (he’s obviously been a huge Mets fan his whole life) and honest game reporting. Nobody does it better. Losers like Michael Kay could learn a lot from him.
2009 Mets: maybe its the Phillies turn to have a terrible bullpen?

I'm sorry
You just made up this Jiggs McDonald fellow didn’t you?
kincritical, exactly. I love that shit

Ha
His inclusion in the top 16 is based mainly on the name “Jiggs”

Two votes?
Are there even two people who remember Jiggs McDonald announcing for the Mets? Until this tourney I had no idea.
Wow
this is like USC vs Hofstra

The ones that voted Jiggs
HAVE to be Islander fans

Both Islanders fans know how to use a computer?

That wasn't necessary
Jiggs is awesome. Had no idea he ever did baseball. Voice of the dynasty.
hey
you guys can talk smack to both of us when your team wins back-to-back-to-back-to-back Stanley Cups, alright?
No!
Man I did not think you’d drag out the Yankee defense. I’m a little disillusioned.

it's a little different
b/c the Yankees continue to be a good franchise and when their fans pull out the history card, it’s just obnoxious. For Islanders fans, it’s all we have. Well, that and an injured goalie signed for the rest of the century
Never heard of Jiggs. Didn't know he called NHL games.
Then again, the Islanders barely count as an NHL team these days. Hey, it could be worse: you’re not a Coyotes ‘fan’.

this is a bit unfair
as Jiggs is a legendary hockey announcer and worthy of respect in that genre. baseball, not so much.
Jiggs was, erm, great
But I’m gonna have to go with Gary.

head size/shoulder width
jiggs appears to have irritated a new guinea head shrinker.
gary is proportional, trending towards megalocephaly.
my vote goes to the guy with the storage space and not the tiny face
Pedro offers you his protection.
ANOTHER METS ANNOUNCER
I don’t remember Jiggs McDonald broadcasting Mets games. I do remember the 1st replacement for Lindsey Nelson (circa 1979), an announcer named Lorn Brown, who was a great cure for insomnia.
