Greg Prince on why he doesn't care even if Mike Piazza did take performance enhancing substances. I'm behind this 100%.

He left out the post 9/11 homer

I have no such trust in Jeff Pearlman, who I think is basically a scumbag sensationalist, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Piazza used, and I’d have the same reaction as Greg Prince has. I’ve come to terms with the steroid era – there are still things about it that bother me, but I’m not going to judge any individual players because they used ‘roids. I’m still going to judge Bonds and Clemens, b/c I think they’re despicable human beings regardless of whether they used PEDs or not, but the steroids don’t make me think any more or less of them than I already do.

The 9/21/2001 homerun

was the only thing his post was missing. It was also the most important thing Piazza ever did in this town.

9/21 Homer

I figured it was implied in the “every now and then” paragraph. The 9/21 homer beat the ’69 Mets winning the World Series in the Greatest Shea Moments vote, so I figured it does OK in the Met memory without an extra mention now and then.

I think, mostly

I just wanted to read your words describe the homerun in the context of that post. Because you’re good at it. Something like:

I know you just spent the last ten days oscillating between agony, confusion and anger, still unsure of what just happened to the world around you. Well, Mike Piazza is coming up and he could take one massive hack and make you forget about all of that, if only for a few minutes. Things are brutal emotionally right now and a homerun here would really lift everyone’s spirits, but there’s a chance that Piazza might have to take a few swigs of the magic medicine before he heads to the plate. Is that going to be alright with you?

And I said yes.
