New York Mets at Miami Marlins, Apr 11, 2009 6:10 PM EDT
Livan Hernandez has been added to the active roster to make tonight's start. To make room, the Mets have...
wait for it...
designated Marlon Anderson for assignment.

Let's go, Fatboy.
See you later, Marl. I’ll miss your 2005 pinch-hitting prowess.
We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!
Gosh
I almost felt bad there for a second. I’m over it now.
Happy trails, Marlon. You’ll probably end up signing with the Braves in a few months and get a crucial pinch hit in some late season at-bat against us. Things just seem to happen that way.

according to the ever-reliable wikipedia, the Pirates sold Gotay’s contract to the Diamondbacks, who designated him to their AAA club.
Ricky Nolasco is really good
and Livan Hernandez is really bad
Discuss.

King of the bling come to lay down the evidence//Not George Bush, L-Millz be da president
Well, let's see
Ricky Nolasco won 15 games last year, and was very good. Livan Hernandez won 13, and sucked. Over the past 3 years Livan has won 37 games, despite having an ERA over 5.00 in that period. So considering his luck, there’s a good chance he won’t have to pitch well to win.
"One of the nice things about baseball is that there are no rules you can't break." - Jim Bouton
dude, he won more games than he lost.
Obviously valuable to his team. I’m chalking up 18 for Livan this year, because, you know, he knows how to win games.
I'm too angry to watch this go down.
I’ve got too much reading to do anyway. Good luck Amazin Avenuer’s and Go Mets!

Yep.
There’s an entire tier of baseball goodness that encapsulates Albert Pujols, then there is another one below him that is empty. Then…the next tier, with the next best players.

reminds me of a comment
made a few years back by cricketer Shane Warne, when he was asked about the three best batsmen in the world: “1) Brian Lara. 2) daylight. 3) Sachin Tendulkar.” We can do the same for Pujols.

its a bad place to be.
congress comment was facetious, but mlb refuses to do the right thing and i have a right to be angry since the game is not being blacked out, its being cockblocked by Fox. That’s what I have a problem with. Although I hear blackout rules are bs too.

It’s about time the Mets had a laugher. And about time the Marlins lost.
Of course Bonifacio will probably hit a 5-run home run here.
2009 Mets: maybe its the Phillies turn to have a terrible bullpen?
Grand Slam followed by him running the bases twice?
Then the Marlins timing in and talking about it for the rest of the season.

If O'Day could get through two innings here
that would be nice. Three relievers used is plenty when the starter goes 6.2 innings.

stokes faced Bonifacio
Gave up a hit. Jerry brought in Pedro F. to pitch to lefty; instead got righty to ground out on one pitch. Then Schneider got infield hit and went to second on throw, Castillo on on error (shoulda been a hit), Cora RBI groundout, Jose K’d, Murphy BB’d, Dub singled in Castillo, Carlos D singled in Murphy, Carlos B K.

Nice move by Jerry
to bring in O’Day and give him some confidence. Jerry has really been sharp so far this season, I have been very impressed with him so far and his instincts
Nice inning by O'Day, as well
Wonder who gets the 9th.

Just stopped in
to say hey. Livan did great, an innings eater like we all thought he would be. Who’d a thought he would allow so few runs though?
O’Day still looks solid, can’t gripe at hime yet. Wright got his frist RBI and Reyes hit the ball hard. Overall a good game by all. Castillo even got in on the hitting party.
Yeah not sure I'd get that move here
rather see O’Day get a second inning, or maybe not have Stokes treated like a ROOGY back in the 7th.

I like that the Mets came out after last night
and blew them out of the building. This was a great answer to last nights tough loss that the Marlins celebrated like Game 7 of the Series. I’m beginning to see a difference in the character of the team from last year but it’s still early.
Agreed
Also, I love this kind of offense — a ton of hits, runners being moved along, everybody contributing . . . (as I type this Castillo gets his 4/4). Tough to stop that kind of team from scoring runs.

You have to like it when the Mets produce like this.
They are just maddening when they face some no-name bum and they can’t score off him.
the Mets won't do it
and shouldn’t but I have to admit it would be kind of funny and satisfying if at the end of this one, they all rushed the mound and jumped up and down or something.
Schneider took a foul ball off the shinguard
He’s probably happy about his day off tomorrow.

Great game
the Livan experiment has already exceeded my expectations. One turn through the rotation and the only guy I’ve been disappointed in is Ollie, so that’s something.
Church probably isn’t gonna have an OPS over 1.300 all season, but I’ll take it while it lasts. I’m very encouraged by him and Delgado, two big question marks who have been on fire so far. And Castillo bounced back a bit tonight – obviously he’s not gonna be a major part of the offense, but if he can hit ~ .270/.350 or upwards he at least won’t be a black hole.
