Recap
I was at the game, but aside from the Wright homerun there wasn't much baseball to get excited about. So, instead, here are some non-baseball things I remember about tonight.
- Yes, there was a cat on the field. Yes, some fans wanted it to come up into the stands (because it'd be cute?). Yes, it probably had rabies.
- My friend txt-ed me at the last minute to tell me he had an extra ticket to the game. Seeing as he's one of those people who always winds up with great seats, and seeing as he said I didn't have to pay for mine, it seemed like a win-win scenario (this was before the game, of course).
- The seats were great, in case you were wondering. As in, punching distance from Jerry Seinfeld and Matthew Broderick great.
- Early in the game, a hot dog vendor near us knocked his cap off trying to put his hot dog caddy (?) on his head. This must've ortended bad things to come, as he took a spill down the stairs a few innings later.
- The pulled pork sandwich at Blue Smoke is awesome at $9. The hot chocolate at $3 was actually very tasty, albeit scalding to my mouth area.
- The restrooms were plentiful, but still packed to the gills with people. If you get stage fright like I do, head for the far right field corner on the promenade, where there are free stalls aplenty.
- Despite being a brand new stadium and supposedly having sufficient parking, I still wound schlepping from a mile away at the Hall of Science.
- Calorie counts are posted at the basic concession stands (i.e. not the specialty places), so eat up, fatty.
- Citi Field is gorgeous, and it's hard to believe that it's all ours.

dirty sanchez
he’s awful
SO AWFUL
thank god we cut him 3/13.
darren o’day = awesome!
eck
A rinky dink lead-off homer? Really?
Eckstein? Really?
Another outfield flyball error? Really?
A balk? Really?
If baseball gods and omens are out there, we better have the most monster, clutchiest August and September in the history of monster-clutchball.
batting helmets. batting titles. obp.
I don't think there's ever been a time
where an inaugural game been lost on a three- base error followed by a balk. That part sucked.
Yesterday, I learned Randy Wolf was the first WP at Minute Maid Park/Enron Field and the first LP at Citizens Bank Park. That’s pretty weird.
The Nye Mets are my favorite squadron.
Does anyone know
if Ron Darling and David Eckstein were able to hook up after the game? I mean, Ron made his feelings about David very clear and I wouldn’t want Ronnie’s crush to go unrequited, y’know?
'Oh yes, I know all about that duty-of-a-citizen stuff. It doesn't go. There are exceptions to every rule, and this was one of them. When a man risks his liberty to come and root at a ball-game, you've got to hand it to him. He isn't a crook. He's a fan.'

No
But I heard Ron showed up outside Eck’s hotel room window with with a lute and a band of minstrels to serenade David in all his grit.

Will anyone ever
hit a homerun to centerfield in that park. Good God, Beltran crushed that ball.
And f that pigment-less little scrapper.
I think
it might play like old Yankee Stadium (pre-renovation). Death to righties, great for lefty pull hitters. Now we just need to sign up Babe Ruth and we’re good to go.
On the bright side
Maybe Ollie will too. For all his faults, he is death to lefty pull hitters.
