Everyone wearing #42
such a phony, pointless marketing move designed so Bud Selig could pat himself on the back about how racially aware he is. I loved it when Griffey and a few other players wanted to wear #42 for a day to honor Jackie, but this is turning what was once a nice gesture into complete overkill. I agree with what Rob Neyer wrote yesterday – they are taking Jackie Robinson out of the realm of man and putting him into the realm of myth, and that’s a bad thing.
/end rant. Anyway, Lets Go Mets. Hopefully good Ollie shows up tonight, for more than 2 innings.
Everyone's wearing #42?
Did not know that. Well, whatever. Let’s Go Mets!

I agree
I say that you designate a day each year when anyone who wants can wear #42. This has become a device for Selig to enhance his legacy. Besides, after all Roberto Clemente did and all he has is an award named after him?!

I feel you're pain
Not tonight cause I get the game, but everytime we play the nats/braves/reds/orioles, do we play the orioles this year, and probably some random team not within 600 miles of me I’ll get blacked out.
Wow
All the 42s is absolute bullshit. I have nothing against diversity, but to do it like this is an absolute fucking joke.
What's that Joe Morgan?
Who is this “Jackie Robinson” fella?

I already hate civil rights (I kid, I kid), so this might just have me turning into a full fledged KKK member. Oh, wait, I’m Jewish. Damn.

same could be said for his first start
3 excellent innings, shaky 4th, gone by 4 1/3.
defense is causing fits
That inning should have ended with a man on first, not caused all the angst it did.
They look tight
Lets just hope this is just early season butterflies and rookie mistakes. I like what I’m seeing from Ollie though, his velo’s up a tick and he’s hitting both sides with his fastball, haven’t seen much of a breaking ball yet, but that could be a good thing later on.

FJM used to skewer him all the time for responding to tons of questions by saying “well, I haven’t seen him/them play much” even though it’s his job to watch baseball
That's why FOX never asked him to do the playoffs

I wonder
If Schneider had dropped that foul bunt attempt on 0-2, does Ollie get the strikeout instead?

Are they really saying that Sheffield makes sense
Because he’ll play better defense in the outfield than Murphy?
Yes they are
And I’m not sure I totally disagree, Murphy is costing more games with his defense right now than he is winning with his offense, and he is going to lose confidence with each and every mistake he makes. If he starts getting tentative out there, that will compound his defensive inadequacies.
But Garry sheffield is awful
those bad throws murphy’s making wouldnt happen with Sheff. because sheff wouldn’t get within 10 feet of the ball before it dropped.

The good news
For the Mets is the middle of the lineup will get one more shot in this game unless the Pads don’t tie or take the lead.
Probably would be hitting better than Schneider in MLB as we speak.

Ollie bet
If he gets one man on base, he’s gone. Jerry won’t let him be on the hook for a loss. I’m hoping he gets through the 7th but if I was a betting man I’d bet the leadoff man gets a hit or a walk.
I guess he didn't get another inning

Near left field of course. I’m dyslexic tonight.

Agreed
Shut up about it already. I heard someone say last year was not a blown lead as the Mets were 7.5 out in June. They just could not sustain the comeback. If anything, the Follies nearly blew it, but since they won the Series no one’s mentioning that.
It's true, though!
It’s a common misconception that the Mets won the World Series in ’07 and the pennant last year. But in fact, they blew a division lead in September two years in a row. Thanks to the Elias Sports Bureau for that info.

He should try bunting every time up
it worked wonders the last time up.

Reyes is planning
…when he will pull his shirt out at game’s end. He is such a gritty player.
Absolutely
All the fuss about who’s on top and who’s in last is stupid this time of year. Anyone think the Marlins, Orioles or Braves will be there at the end?
Of course not!
Not when the Orioles and Blue Jays are 1st and 2nd in the AL East!
"One of the nice things about baseball is that there are no rules you can't break." - Jim Bouton
The Marlins know
Braves quite possibly. And I think the Orioles, probably not this year but in the very near future, will win 90 games and not only finish out of the play-offs but 4th in their division.
a grittier player
than gonzalez would have been running all out from the start. grandstander.
Uh, guys...
If this score holds up, I think I have a 100 in the swag contest.
That would be awesome!
I’ll be sure to check tomorrow. Not sure I’ll be able to sleep tonight with all the anticipation.
FUCK!
just rechecked game score. Off by 2 on Perez. Perfect on everything else.

You’d have won a Mets DVD box set in all likelihood.

Minorities in baseball
There’s actually a disproportionate number of top black prospects considering, the percentage in all of baseball. Like 5-6 of the top 20 of most top 100 lists are black players.
way to take your time wright
he usually rushes that throw…maybe he’s trying something new with a 5 run lead
He's trying to throw the SWAG score
He’s got 7-3 Mets.
PIITB!

Just said the Braves looked like the Bad News Bears tonight. That is hilarious (although I think it’s accurate)
By signing Lowe and Vazquez (sp?) and apparently no bullpen

Killing me
I choked on my own saliva when I read your comment. Best post of the night, hands down.
Maybe the Mets need a knuckleballer in the rotation
Wakefield brought one into the 8th or 9th tonight.
Should you really get awarded a “no hitter” if you’re a knuckleballer?

Game Wrap
Ollie looked good, pitched six strong giving up one earned run. Met’s were efficient with their hits, getting 7 runs on just 7 hits, aided by 6 walks and one error. Bullpen worked effectively, giving up a meaningless run in the 9th on a home run. Mets now need to take the final game tomorrow night. No TV for me. First chance to use MLB gamecast.
Appreciate the concise wrapup brother.
Unable to watch the game. Nice little paragraph like this is well appreciated.
