Do I stay up to watch this...
… hmmmm… starts in an hour and it’s 11.10pm already here. I do love watching Johnny Maine normally, but the last three games I’ve stayed up till 3am to watch have been disasters… argh I can’t decide.
Wow
I can’t imagine that the folks on SNY are randomly drawn from the population in terms of intelligence. There has to be some sort of de-facto selection process that results in these hosts being as stupid as feasible.
Not Gary/Kieth/Ron/Kevin, of course, but all of these other guys (whom I almost never watch) are, in the words of Stan Marsh “so f—-ing stupid it’s unbelievable”.

Out to dinner
so I’ll probably miss most, if not all, of the game. I mean, I’ll be getting text updates over the phone but, whatever. It ain’t the same.
Let’s Go Mets!

Come on Maine! *fingers crossed*
If he doesn’t have it, and Sanchez does, we could be in for a long night.
Alright DW, bases loaded, 2 outs, you know what you're gonna do, right?

Damn, that hurts
It wasn’t that far inside though. He almost swung at it. That’s just tough luck for both Maine and Hanley
I will not allow the denigration of the life essence
It's ok guys
The Mets play tight when they get ahead, so they’re better off losing early. I have no stats or facts to back that up, but I heard it on WFAN this weekend, so it must be true.
I agree, and for no good reason

Do we hate Hanely?
What did he ever do besides play ball? I don’t want anybody getting hit who isn’t named Cole Hamels or Rodger Clemens. I want Hanley on my team (2nd base of course)

Anybody catch the first pitch?
How’s Sanchez arm? Better than Pennington?
Eh
It’s not a cannon. I’ve actually heard him described as a somewhat wealthier man’s chad pennington.

There are about 400 pizzerias here, so people think everyone will go to theirs if they open one.
It's NY.
We’ve got Mexicans making Italian food, Chinese making tacos, Ecuadorians making pizza…basically, every ethnic group makes another’s food.

Whether he's any good or not
Sanchez definitely hit the lottery – good looking, well spoken, Hispanic kid who’s now popular in the two biggest markets in the country. Kid’s gonna make a fortune in advertising deals.
/football talk.
And he seems like a nice enough guy.
I kinda hope he succeeds, but obviously that the Jets suck.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"
-Tug McGraw
Yeah I've never heard him talk until yesterday
And I can understand why NFL gms are/were enamored with him. Like just based off what I saw of him at USC I was never really a fan of him as a prospect, I thought he could be a solid nfl qb but I definitely didn’t understand why he shot up draft boards, but I can see how he’s so charming and intelligent I can’t see how nfl gms were hypnotized by him. I only saw like a 10 minute interview with him and I keep forgetting why I didn’t like him as a prospect.
I also think
of all the positions in sports, QB might be the one where personality matters the most. I mean, obviously talent is most important, but a QB is basically the coach on the field and needs to keep his guys heads in the game. The story about Joe Montana casually pointing out John Candy in the crowd before going down the field and throwing “the Catch” in the NFC Championship is a perfect example.

Good thing Maine is pitching well..
From Rubin
Freddy Garcia served up a grand slam to Ryan Langerhans in a six-run fifth inning after which he was pulled. Garcia was charged with seven runs and has an 8.18 ERA since joining the Bisons. One observer said Garcia had “one pitch at 85 mph, a few at 84 and the rest in the 70s. A bunch of curveballs in the low 60s too.”
Keep it up Johnny
I suppose it could be worse.

Ha
Frankie’s pitch will be the catalyst that spurs the Marlins on to win every game against the Mets for the rest of the year.

from scoring lots and lots and lots of runs off Ollie.

I would just like to say John Maine has singlehandedly reduced my blood pressure.

Is it possible that we now have three starters?

Four with Livan performing well.
But how long do we expect that, really.

I'm saying let's give him his next start before making a final decision.
He started out well enough.

What, does he not care?
The Marlins will make him pay.

alright just making sure ;) He didn’t have a great outing and didn’t qualify for the save so he was probably just happy to finish the guy off before he let a run get through. Still great job by Frankie. His change-up is nasty.

this is the way every win should be
When asked why I was a Mets fan, I responded, "pain is my lifeblood."
Marlins lose 7 in a row
remember when people were predicting they’d run away with the division? Baseball is a funny game
Bobby Ojeda is a genius:
“The problem, well not the problem, but the thing about six runs is it’s not three. Two or three, I’ve still got a game, I’ve got a long way to go. Six runs, it’s mine to lose.”

The Phillies
were down 11-7 in the bottom of the eighth, but now its 11-9. These Nationals + the Phillies comeback-ness is making me nervous.

Just got back from Citi
Freakin Nats bullpen making Raul Ibanez look good huh?
On a lighter note, fun game to be at. Maine seemed pretty sharp. Sheff finally showed his true outfield prowess, but Omir Santos made up for it and more.

yeah
bet that was a great game to be at. Must be awesome witnessing a grand slam!

And rewarding to be the only fan in my section to know who Omir Santos even was and where he came from lol.

Oh and that triple Wright hit
I don’t think I’ve ever been at a game and seen a ball hit that far and not wind up a homer. That ball was absolutely launched.

Hitting one out to center
Is going to take quite a shot. Kearns (I think) yesterday had to have really hit it hard.
Yeah I was celebrating
Like that one was out, and then I saw it bank off the wall and I was just stunned that it didn’t leave the yard. I wasn’t even sure Santos’ slam would make it out, and I thought Wright’s was gone for sure.
by Mark Himmelstein on Apr 27, 2009 11:09 PM EDT up reply actions
yeah watching it on tv
it looked like Santos’ hit just made it’s way over.
by dulciusEXasperis on Apr 27, 2009 11:11 PM EDT up reply actions
Just over
the 384 mark though lol, that’s still quite a poke. I thought that one would hit the wall though and come back in play, but I wasn’t gonna complain or anything. Wright’s ball was still hit further, but man, dead center and right center are just going to eat flyballs alive. It definitely makes Kearns’ shot that much more impressive.
by Mark Himmelstein on Apr 27, 2009 11:14 PM EDT up reply actions
yeah it's a long way but
I like that the field plays big. Though I guess watching home runs is always fun; I like that it gives our pitchers some advantage over batters.
But yeah man center field is damn far away lol.
by dulciusEXasperis on Apr 27, 2009 11:18 PM EDT reply actions
Oh definitely agreed
But Shea played big, and aside from down the lines, so far Citi’s played even bigger. I don’t think Shea would have held Wright’s shot, but it would have been close. There was zero wind so that helped it carry a bit too, but he really just got all of it. Again, not gonna complain, Wright had a solid night at the dish and showed some nice encouraging signs. No Ks, base hit w/RISP, and took that pitch deep to dead center.
