either that
or the world’s greatest lookalike.
but the mets did just recently sent him down to FLA. i just figured he’d be, you know, working out and such. at least he got great seats.

Actually...
THIS is the world’s greatest lookalike.

Hilarious
I could see Kevin Burkhardt getting duped like that.

nah
SNY wouldn’t bother interviewing a third-rate celebrity at a ballgame because a) they actually focus on baseball and b) there’s probably at least a second-rate celebrity in the park on any given night — the mets do play in NYC after all.

Yeah, but I’d rather buy whatever Guy Fieri is shilling than ever listen to Rachel Ray talk.

Third rate celebrity
I guess “Baba Booey” is a 1st rate celebrity? (interviewed on-air this weekend) And yes I know he was there for Autism Awareness, but still.

Wow
Being on the DL is sweet.

trying to think of a clever joke
but all I’ve got is: Ollie sucks.

Yeah I've spent like 10 minutes trying to think of something witty
and I’ve got nothing.

oh come on
he has a right to enjoy life outside baseball. unless you expected ollie to be working 24/7 on getting back into form, i don’t see what the issue is with him attending a basketball game.
props to robcast123, though. that’s an awesome find.

But he SHOULD be working 24/7 to get back into form.
He has a $36 mil contract. I mean, come on.

the guy can only throw so many pitches in a day
and given his propensity for not being able to focus for long periods of time, it’s probably best that he get some downtime every now and then.

But he's not a child!
He’s being paid like an adult. Let him act like one.

the mets don't control his life
he was paid $36 million to play baseball. there’s nothing to suggest that going to a basketball game interferes with what the mets are paying him to do — play baseball. ollie has done a lot of stupid things lately, but this isn’t one of them.

Obviously it doesn't really affect it.
But it would sure make all the fans feel better if he had some common courtesy to hang his head in shame.

I agree
You’re bound to have some free time even when you’re doing really intense rehab; I’d rather see Ollie sitting courtside at a playoff game than dancing the cha-cha on the beach at 3 a.m.

while I would agree with this 99% of the time
this is a sorta unique situation. The guy signed a massive contract in the offseason, showed up incredibly out of shape, has absolutely sucked so far this season to the point that he had to get put on the DL for a fake injury, and his team got dominated last night by the “other guy” that the Mets almost signed instead of him. I understand that he’s not going to be working 24/7 to get back in shape, but he should be smart enough to realize that going to a game (and sitting courtside where you know the camera’s going to catch you) is just a terrible P.R. move. It suggests – and I hate myself for going here – a lack of desire/concentration/maturity (not saying it means those things, but that’s what a lot of people are going to read into it).
Why not just chillax, watch the game on his assuredly massive HD TV, have some ladies over, whatever. At least make people believe you’re concentrating on baseball.

that's fine
i understand why people might think it LOOKS bad, but like you said, just because his attendance at a basketball game might suggest to some people that’s he’s not 100% focused on getting back to baseball doesn’t mean those perceptions are defendable.
who knows? maybe ollie’s a big basketball fan and loves nothing better than to watch a game courtside. maybe he went cause he was down about his baseball performance and wanted to try to boost his spirits. this might be the turning point in his rehabilitation!!!
ok, not really. but ballplayers deserve to have a life outside baseball. as long as ollie wasn’t pulling a spike lee (i.e. drawing attention to himself in his courtside seats), i have no problem with him taking in a game.

Have some ladies over?
Unh-unh! That would definitely not help him. Then again…

On an unrelated note
God bless TiVo/DVR. I don’t know where I’d be without it and how I ever got by without it for so long.

i actually didn't mind this at all
i think theres a very good chance that the mets sent him down to FLA and said take the next 3-4 days to just relax, physically and especially mentally.
its clear to everyone that so much of his struggles derive from his head so after what must have been a really really stressful/anxious/embarassing 2-3 weeks, its probably not a bad idea to let the guy decompress. i mean, we all look at it as fans and get pissed and let down and stuff but we forget, this is his life and i’m assuming hes pretty down about the circumstances as well. so hell, if watching big baby hit the game-winning jumper courtside helps him to cool off and eventually get back into the right mindset sooner, then he can go crazy.
ps – props to my brother who was the one who actually spotted him

Thing is, he doesn't have any REAL problems.
It isn’t really his mindset. He’s consistently inconsistent, and is just not a very good pitcher.

This doesn't really bother me.
You know this was an 8PM game on a Sunday night. The baseball world is virtually shut down at this time — save one game broadcast by three dolts.
It’s common for athletes to go to sporting events during their free time. I mean, it’s not like he’s going there “to be seen”. Do you think they put the spotlight on him to evoke a response from the crowd? How many people in Orlando could possibly recognize him?

Enjoy life Ollie.
At the same time, I do hope you do your best to get better and get in shape. If you don’t, you only have yourself to blame. Take the money and live your life. If you don’t give all of yourself to the game of baseball, you won’t be the last one.
