There is a smile on David Wright's face, a smile on Jose Reyes's face. But there is not an edge to them.

"Sometimes, you need a little meanness to your game."
Say what you want about Lo Duca and his cheating on his wife with a minor but that’s meanness that’s missing on this team.
By the way, I heard from somewhere that Jeter totally got an edge.
today, is a good day
obviously you need to beat chan ho park, but thats what we did, and thats what good teams do. so hopefully this is, as rayden said in mortal kombat the the movie, a taste of things to come.
HELLO HELLO MR WILPON. WE WANT THE MANSION NOT THE CONDO.
really?
who quotes mortal combat the movie?
great soundtrack though.

Fuck you, Omar Minaya.
How about you go do your job and get some quality starting pitching in the offseason, instead of wishing that your personal fantasy team is enough to get the job done in real life.
You have shown unbelievable shortsightedness in your tenure, and for throwing your best players—ones brought up in the Mets system—under the bus, you have earned nothing but my contempt.
Seriously, Alex Cora provides more of an edge? The same kind of edge as Chase Utley, really? @#$% the heck?
Omar: you get an F. I look forward to the day you are fired.
We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!
What the hell is Minaya talking about in these sound bytes?
Just keep your mouth shut man. This reminds of me of the Willie Randolph “SNY portrays me poorly and is racist” nonsense from last season.

FIRE. OMAR. MINAYA.
For this knucklehead to come out and blame two of the game’s best players for the fact that he can’t build a supporting cast for said superstars is beyond stupid. It’s infuriating.
2009 Mets: maybe its the Phillies turn to have a terrible bullpen?
Omar from Clueless Land
You are on the FAN!!!
two things
1) i can’t believe minaya is buying into this bullshit, media-driven meme about edge, heart, and leadership. ugh. no wonder he went after eckstein after the 2007.
2) omar’s flip-flopping stupidness just goes to show how meaningless the concept of leadership is when applied to baseball.
I made the mistake
of turning on MLB Network later in the evening just in time to hear Mitch Williams’ comment on Omar’s, um, comment. Long story short — Omar is right, Jose Reyes has good skills but is too busy choreographing dance moves to really use those skills, and there is no place for smiling and laughing in baseball.
You hear that, Omar? Mitch fucking Williams agrees with your comment. Care to re-think it?
'Oh yes, I know all about that duty-of-a-citizen stuff. It doesn't go. There are exceptions to every rule, and this was one of them. When a man risks his liberty to come and root at a ball-game, you've got to hand it to him. He isn't a crook. He's a fan.'

Yeah I don't particularly care for him
But maybe it has to do with the fact that I’ve only ever heard him bloviating about “real” baseball players and how Jose Reyes is not a “real” baseball player because he smiles, laughs and high-fives his teammates. Seriously — I’ve seen him talking about the Mets twice and that’s basically been the extent of his analysis.

So what we've learned this week
Our gm is an idiot, our manager is suspect, and the best players on our team are the only ones who ever seem to get blamed.
Why is that?
Is it maybe that we can barely get more than replacement value production from catcher, we won’t commit on our corner outfielders, we won’t go over slot on draft to get guys who can quickly contribute at the major league level, we only sign OUR GUYS for the starting pitching slot when we could have signed someone better, or that we have a grody bench?

One thing about Minaya
One thing we can’t put a value tag on is the amount of minor league talent he’s brought in.. maybe not first-hand, but I’m fairly certain this was one of his goals. The issue is though that all the talent brought in has been 16-year-old Hispanic players, and they haven’t had long enough to develop. (And the fact that we seem to want them to develop and contribute by the time they’re 20)
So, maybe we should wait to see how his prospect goals turn out before firing him on May 2nd? Maybe?
I (kind of) hope he sticks a shoe in his mouth and just shuts the fuck up, because I (kind of) want him to stick around.
Meh
I understand what you’re saying but it’s not like he’s the only gm who’s brought in droves of latin talent, a lot of teams have done it and done it a lot better than he has so far. Bringing in the talent doesn’t really matter much if we can’t develop them properly. I guess I want him to stick around since who knows who the Wilpons would replace him with but I don’t think he’s done a lot to be considered more than a middle of the road type of gm.
Well, it could be worse...
They could bring in a GM that would trade a guy like Kazmir for a guy like Victor Zambrano. Thankfully though we don’t have to put up with that.
True, but...
He should have done more. His refusal to go overslot is, frankly, just incredibly stupid.
