F! Day has arrived.
Heres the lineup:
Angel Pagan CF
Luis Castillo 2B
David Wright 3B
Gary Sheffield LF
Fernando Tatis 1B
Fernando Martinez RF
Omir Santos C
Ramon Martinez SS
Livan Hernandez RHP (3-1, 4.93)
Oh! I didn't know we called Fartinez until now
Good thing i was going to skip class today anyways, must see TV!
Wow things are bad right now
Are we sure Wright isnt rehabbing and that this isn’t the New Orleans Zephyrs starting lineup?
Considering the Zephyrs aren't our affiliate anymore...I'm gonna venture that it isn't.

No Daniel Murphy against the right-hander?
Also, anyone down there got an idea on the weather? Is this game happening?

thats what gets me
is why is Tatis (a righty) going up against a righty with Murph (who did will defensivly at 1B) sittin on the bench. Jerry loves the lefty vs. righty matchups so why Tatis?
Especially since both are struggling offensively.

Don't use your brain.
That’s why you struggle to understand, Padawan.

Jerry dreamed Fernando hit a walk-off HR
He isn’t sure what Fernando, so he is playing both today
Mets solution: get Tokuchi Toua (ace starting pitcher, 1B, cleanup hitter AND manager).

It's starting to drizzle on the UWS
But I think they’ll get it in, maybe a short delay or two.
Thanks, yo

Also Pagan over Reed at CF
Unless Reed is injured too
Mets solution: get Tokuchi Toua (ace starting pitcher, 1B, cleanup hitter AND manager).
That's why it's so intriguing that Reed is not starting today
BTW, is our new SS at City Field yet?
Mets solution: get Tokuchi Toua (ace starting pitcher, 1B, cleanup hitter AND manager).
Wilson fucking Valdez
no, we don’t want to see what one of our kids could do, it’s much better to trot out a proven failure 7 days a week at short. Fuckin Omar.
That's unfair
Which kids? Coronado? Tejada? Havens? I submit that none of the three can hit a lick in the majors right now, and only the first two could field the position comfortably. With Tejada, there’s no reason to start the clock on a 19 year old just to serve as a stopgap. And all things considered, I’d rather use the slick-fielding 31 year old than Coronado.

For cash considerations, who cares? The guy can field. That’s all that matters for the time being.

The guy can field and BUNT!
Mets solution: get Tokuchi Toua (ace starting pitcher, 1B, cleanup hitter AND manager).
Whoa, whoa, whoa. I think the general consensus is that we like the move.
He has a great glove and he’s probably an improvement over Ramon offensively as well. And all of our kids are either not ready or barely an upgrade anyway.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"
-Tug McGraw
I doubt Coronado or Malo
would be a worse hitter or significantly worse fielder than Valdez (certainly not than Martinez) and I, for one, would like to see whether they could handle it. It’s not unheard of to push kids along quickly, that’s the only way you can really see what you got.
So how do you know Valdez will be worse?
Check and mate.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"
-Tug McGraw
He's been hitting well in AAA and is a great defender.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"
-Tug McGraw
Malo's like 26
and sucks, and Coronado’s a non-prospect who was getting dominated at AAA. What’s the point?
Yup
Malo’s like a Chris Woodward redux. A guy who can play anywhere, just not particularly well. He probably doesn’t even have Woody’s bat looking at the minor league numbers.

Kevin Burkhardt: understatement of the year.
“If [Martinez] hits, I don’t think he’s leaving.”
You think, Kevin?
Unless he can bunt/short swingz/has grission
I don’t think Jerry will like him
Mets solution: get Tokuchi Toua (ace starting pitcher, 1B, cleanup hitter AND manager).
Sooo
You know what will be sweet?
Having baseball when we have Jose Reyes, Carlos Delgado, and Carlos Beltran in the lineup.
How the hell did we ever lose with our full team lol?

I put 11
2 grannies for Martinez. The other three will be intentional walks he draws with the bases loaded
Will he hit them in the same inning
that way they can mention it along with Tatis

The hilarious thing is
Fernando Martinez is coming up from the worst AAA team in professional baseball to a team a half game out of first place.
And he has less protection

Also, why is Santos playing again?
You’d think with a lineup like this you’d want some pop with Castro in.
Oh, I forgot, I’m thinking. Our manager doesn’t do that.
Jerry Manuel...stop being....stupid...
I feel guilty
I went to Shea to see Wright, Milledge, and Pelfrey in all their first games ever, but because of a sickness I have right now (mesenteric adenitis), I’m bed-ridden.
Damn, I want to see F!
Jerry Manuel...stop being....stupid...
I think the others ones
we beat the Expos, and Wright went 0-4.
Milledge I can barely remember, I actually think it was the Nats, which would be really weird.

Man, we've been waiting for this day for so long,
I can’t wait to see him hit.
I would’ve led him off.

I think both of them will probably get it.
I’d rest all the position players who make it, even Wright. I don’t care.

We’ll win tomorrow with Johan, so we get this one and the sweep is ours.

Manny Ramirez is fourth among outfielders, with 442,763 votes in the first round of National League balloting, which was released today. He is only 34,080 votes behind third-place Carlos Beltran, who is in line for the final starting outfield spot. In fifth place is another drug cheat, Mike Cameron of Milwaukee (432,034 votes), who served a 25-game suspension at the start of last season.

He did cut his K rate lately though in Buffalo, that’s part of plate discipline. He’s just still uber-aggressive. Hopefully, even if he has to go back down in a few weeks, he’ll learn a valuable lesson about big league pitchers’ ability to throw curves behind in the count.

that the team for some reason misses the easy plays and aces the hard ones. It is maddening. Maybe Fmart because he’s a rookie, plays a simple by the book game and the vets pick up his energy and relax out there.
If you watched any baseball team with regularity
the same things could be said. The fact that we see this team almost everyday magnifies their failures, and makes it seem as if the Mets are the only ones who make mistakes.
by James Kannengieser on May 26, 2009 8:22 PM EDT up reply actions
Of course
but the Mets have been a good defensive team which make this year’s mistakes so glaring and uncharacteristic of the team. The Mets are better than what they’ve shown so far. At least I think they are.
Agreed
that they’ve been a very good defensive team in recent years, and this season are actually among the worst. I’m not sure it has anything to do with “playing the game the right way” though.

Omar deserves plenty of criticism, but whatever depth this team has had, its name is Gary Sheffield, and for that, Omar does deserve credit.

Bad news
The make up for the Phillies rain out will be September 13th at 8:05. So double-whammy: double header forces the team to reach for an extra pitcher late in the season and another ESPN Sunday night telecast.
I think I'm more upset about the ESPN part

Haha I think you're just joking
But have the Mets recent failures as an organization never been more evident than in October ’06, September ’07 and September ’08?

I think this past week has been a good display of our organizational failures
but I get what you’re saying.

something like:
“It’s surprising to see the Mets still in the race this late in the year. They’ve really done well in spite of having such failing players like Carlos Beltran on the team.”

late in the year
I can hear it now.
“The Mets have an 8 game lead but I am not confident that they can hold on against the heart and determination of the Phillies. Beltran and Wright just can’t come through when they have to and Reyes is too immature.”

At this point, I'd take their 12 position players over ours.

Maybe at least
we’ll miss him for our series because of his groin.
By the way, that just may be the best icon in the history of icons, with Gary and Doc there.
