Trade Winds Begin as Breeze
More rumors about the Mets interest in Johnson. According to the author the nats would want Parnell as part of the deal.

Not Mets-related, but
the Red Sox are looking at Frenchy? I’d think his general disinterest in getting on base wouldn’t really fit in with their front office’s philosophy.

Parnell for Nick?
I’m probably in the minority here, but I’d go for it. Antonini? Kunz? Sure.
Antonini or Kunz sure
But I wouldn’t do anything crazy with Parnell just yet. If when the Mets and Phillies meet in a few weeks the team health has not improved substantially or an issue has arisen preventing Delgado from beginning his rehab in the near future, I would seriously consider it then. For now though I don’t think the Mets can afford to lose Parnell, and there’s no reason to make a hasty trade during the soft part of the schedule and while guys are just starting to try and get healthy again.

If Putz has a solid first half he could bring more at the deadline
and then Parnell fills the setup role.
Yeah but that'd be more appealing to a competitive team looking for a closer
Or a reliever with a track record. Obviously not the Nats. Plus, given cost and service time, Parnell’s got a much higher trade value right now.

Yes
I would be more inclined to keep seasoning Parnell and see if he continues to look like a high LI guy, and deal Putz when (if?) Wagner gets back. Putz has been ok but that is a big contract and you have to figure he could bring back something useful.
Oh definitely
I’m just not sure what you could get unless you found a really desperate team like the Halos, who should be competing if not for the shoddy pen or a terrible closer, and Fuentes has been fine.

Johnson is not a good fit for the Mets
Sure, he rakes when he’s healthy. We could use a hitter like him. But what happens when Delgado returns? Neither can play anywhere other than first so one would have to sit. If we get to the point where Carlos looks unlikely to return, he makes much more sense. As of now, I’d rather the club acquire someone who can slot into a corner OF position or somewhere else when Delgado returns.
FWIW, DeRosa still seems like the best fit since he provides average or better hitting and defense virtually anywhere on the diamond. He could be our SS for the next ten days, then play first base for six weeks until Delgado’s return and then platoon in a corner OF spot for the remainder of the year, all the while providing insurance if other injuries occur. For the right price, I think he’s the play.

I can't see us getting a very good price on DeRosa from the Indians
I don’t think they’ll undervalue him like the cubs did.
Perhaps not
but he is one of the more expensive players on their team and in a walk year. If they continue to struggle, it’s hard to imagine them holding on to him for the whole season. We’ll see.
I don't doubt he'll become available
Just that we’ll be able to meet the price, or at least should meet.
No deal. Parnell for Johnson
is something I’d be skittish about. Perhaps we could convince the Nats Eddie Kunz has value?

I would think that Kunz could get it done.
hopefully Omar wouldn’t even think about dealing Parnell. I think he has pitched way too well for the Mets to just deal him for a fill in 1B
I don't wish the Nationals on any of our homegrown talent.
That would just be cruel.

Parnell
While he’s been good — a middle reliever who doesn’t get a ton of swinging strikes (despite throwing hella hard) and averages 4.1 BB/9 doesn’t strike me as incredibly valuable. Bullpen arms — even good ones — tend to be overvalued. FWIW, ZiPS doesn’t foresee good results going forward.
Nick absolutely rakes, already has been worth twice as many WAR as Parnell, and has a pretty slick glove.
I agree, though, waiting a month or so isn’t a bad idea; let’s just hope the Nats don’t bite on some other team’s offer first.
