Meet the Mets
So much for Fernando Martinez's game started streak. At least it's just to get Carlos Beltran back in the lineup.
In Carlos Delgado news, the Mets are not rushing to find an outside replacement (bottom of the article), even after Delgado said he doesn't know when he'll be back.
Faith and Fear in Flushing mic'd the umpires during Wednesday's instant replay.
Mike Silva makes the case for Adrian Gonzalez.
Alex Cora is coming back early because of a splint he made himself.
Gary Sheffield is now the leader of the Mets, mostly because he's hitting.
Has Citi Field forced the Mets to get better at situational hitting?
Around the NL East
Tom Glavine pitched five scoreless innings for triple-A Gwinnett. Glavine says he's ready to go in the bigs as early as next week.
Meanwhile, the major league squad didn't fare so well, losing their fourth straight, this time to the Diamondbacks 5-2.
Jeff Francoeur may be on his way to Boston to back up JD Drew.
Good news for the Mets, the Marlins are interested in signing newly released National Daniel Cabrera.
Who is this guy Sean West going against the Mets tonight?
Brett Myer's hip injury is serious, possibly requiring surgery. Phillie Nation is reporting he's done for the season.
Around MLB
Baltimore hot prospect Matt Wieters is making his big league debut tonight against Detroit and Dontrelle.
More ejections yesterday, as four players including Jason Varitek were tossed.
In response to his recent tantrum, MLB has suspended Cub starter Carlos Zambrano for 6 games.
Tomo Ohka is back, this time with Cleveland.
Eric Gagne is hoping to return to Los Angeles some day by way of Quebec.
Welcome back Carlos Beltran. Those of us here at AA missed you. Stay healthy.

He was never an Expo
So we’re safe.
Grission and Husart - that is either the non-union Mexican equivelant of "Starsky and Hutch" or the key to winning the World Series.
I feel bad for him
But he’s only hurting himself by trying.

yeah
Although I have to say i don’t disagree that the Mets have had a special knack, coincidence or not, for appearing slack, the sudden love for Sheffield and his clubhouse presence from the same guys who ragged him is too much.
His is the only dangerous bat? Wright’s bat is all kittens and milk?
Sheff is loved now because he is hitting and the Mets are winning, and he isn’t in a position to nor needs to make contract demands.
And after defending him yesterday, I am chagrined that in today’s thumbsucker Larry “The Chemist” Brooks flat out thinks missing Delgado is improving team chemistry and leading to wins, and F-Bart Hubbuch suggests the same. At least larry mentions ops, and hey, even fact Mets aren’t striking out much and lack of homers, although he doesn’t make the leap to babip and iso. Mike Puma Clyde’s story, being more just a news story, at least hinted that losing Delgado is not the best thing to ever happen to the Mets.
The concept of randomness and luck, high HOBAR rates reverting to the mean, etc., doesn’t appear to really occur to these guys. Swept by Dodgers in close games, taking 2-3 from Boston thanks to an Omir blast, etc., these are proof the world changed overnight in the clubhouse, not just, hey, things sometimes just happen that way.
Although, in fairness, these guys have a lot of empty space to fill in a dying format, and their ways were set long a long time ago.

I feel that way about the Baltimore Sun today.

Another -1 for Silva.
What is that, like -354 now?

Can Alex Cora fix Ollie head too?
Mets solution: get Tokuchi Toua (ace starting pitcher, 1B, cleanup hitter AND manager).
He said "splint"
Not “spliff”.

Losing Myers will be a drag for the Phillies, and I’m guessing it’s about 50-50 the team will bring him back next season.
That said, I’d be kind of glad to be rid of the burden of being forced to cheer for a guy I deem to be an unfettered dick.

you have no idea
He has recent “infractions” that just drive the point home. Like dressing his kids in Confederate flag gear during Spring Training. I’ll bet Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard just loved that.

are you serious?
If so: holy.

define "viable"
There’s Kendrick, who really has no out pitch but has had some success with the big club before.
There’s Carlos Carrasco, who’s having an inexplicably miserable season in AAA despite solid peripheral stats.
There’s Drew Carpenter, who’s like Joe Blanton minus stuff (as hard as that may be to believe).
The most intriguing candidate is probably Antonio Bastardo, who has dominated at every level despite scouts’ concerns about his stuff (average) and size (thin build, 5’11"). He is a lefty, though. And I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t rooting for him in part because of the possibility of being able to own a BASTARDO jersey.
Kendrick probably gets the first shot, though.

Bastardo...haha
What happens if he comes up and fails?!
I just meant viable as coming up and pitching decently until the Phils could make a trade. Romero comes back next week, so that will provide a bump in the pen.
You think Moyer has anything left?
Nobody as good as Myers. If we’re talking upside, I’d go in order: Carrasco, Bastardo, Kendrick, Carpenter. This is bad for the Phillies, as bad or worse than the Mets losing Delgado.
Re: Moyer – I quit trying to forecast Moyer three or four years ago, but common sense, as well as the laws of physics and human aging patterns, strongly indicate that he’s at or near the end. I refuse to be tough on the guy, because 2008 doesn’t happen without him.

If JA Happ gets more starts
it’s probably a net positive for the Phils. Of course this may also mean more CHP so all bets are off.
The mic'd umpires bit on the home replay was hilarious!
“Fellas, focus! Home run?”
“Well, it’s not conclusive, but shit yeah, anything to get us out of here alive.”
“Besides, it’s kind of cool when we come out and twirl the finger and people cheer us.”
“Isn’t it? That was way cool the other night. And you know we’ll be on SportsCenter over and over. My kids love that.”
“OK, agreed. Home run. Let’s go be heroes.”
“Think the rib place stays open after the game?”
Love it!!!

If Manuel benches F&M!, Omar might have had it with him
Omar knows he screwed up with Willie over Acta, and if Manuel continues to stunt the kids by benching them every game, and Acta gets fired, Omar might act, though I emphasize might. Omar rarely does something that requires cojones.

Yeah this is just ridiculous
I was just about to come here and post something along the lines of “and Jerry’s attempt to ruin F!’s career has begun”. I honestly can’t believe this. At least use proper reasoning, if you’re going to bench him for the gaffe, that’s fine, but don’t just bench him to shade him from LHP. He needs to play everyday, he’s not some platoon player you just called up from the minors to fill a hole. He’s a legitimate Top 30 prospect at this point, maybe event Top 20. Plus, is he ever going to realize that Angel Pagan can bat right handed, in that he stands in the right handed batters box vs LHP. That doesn’t make him good at it.

Its clearly not for the gaffe
Prior to wednesday’s game, Manuel told francessa that F! was not going to start in RF on friday (meaning today). So, this was planned prior to the gaffe.
