Oh and I like how Cerrone says
…like i said earlier, i believe perez’s issues are confidence and mental, and since i do not know him, nor know how best to treat his ego and psyche, i trust the Mets did what they believe to be the best way to get him through this…
Think your fastball will go faster Ollie! THINK!
King of the bling come to lay down the evidence//Not George Bush, L-Millz be da president
Ollie sucked when his fastball was 95 too, though
just not as much as he sucks now. Ollie’s always been a headcase, now he’s a headcase who doesn’t even have good stuff. Way to go, Omar.
You guys need to relax.
Ollie didn’t suck. His ERA+ with the Mets has been 120 and 100, respectively. His career ERA+ is 93. He’s about a league average pitcher or slightly below. That doesn’t = sucks.
So while I think we can all agree that Omar way overpaid for him, I think it’s a bit unfair to paint Ollie as being worse than he is. Ollie’s main problem is that he isn’t a dude like Trachsel or Redding, where he is consistently mediocre. Ollie arrives at being mediocre by having a string of brilliant starts where he is unhittable, followed by a string of starts where he is lucky if he goes 3 innings.
what he said
I liked Ollie a lot when he was the quirky, sometimes dominant throw in from the Nady trade. But, he sucked in 2003, he sucked in ‘05 and ’06, and he was sucky for a good part of last year, though I’ll concede that overall he was an average pitcher.
"This is the beauty of baseball. In basketball, at the end of the game, you want to put the ball in your best scorer's hands. But in baseball, it's up to a rookie like McGlinchy and a journeyman like Franco with the entire season on the line. Baseball history is dotted with names like Al Weis and Brian Doyle, men who have taken their name out of the agate type and placed it into the headlines, because it was simply their time."

He doesn’t throw enough strikes to be a lefty specialist, and he can’t be considered until his velocity returns. He needs to be in AAA, as a starter, to get his shit together. Period. Anything else is foolhardy, IMO.
