"If on-base percentage is so important, then why don't they put it up on the scoreboard?"

that had to be facetious
right? I mean, he can’t really be that dumb, can he? Aside from the fact that he doesn’t recognize OBP as important, it’s on EVERY SCOREBOARD I’ve ever seen.
"This is the beauty of baseball. In basketball, at the end of the game, you want to put the ball in your best scorer's hands. But in baseball, it's up to a rookie like McGlinchy and a journeyman like Franco with the entire season on the line. Baseball history is dotted with names like Al Weis and Brian Doyle, men who have taken their name out of the agate type and placed it into the headlines, because it was simply their time."
Yeah,
I think he may have been taking a stab at irreverent humor.

Maybe
but I prefer to go on thinking that he was totally serious. And, besides, given his history of paltry OBPs over the years (2005 – .336, 2006 – .293, 2007 – .338, 2008 – .294, 2009 – .303), there could be more than a kernel of truth to it.
'Oh yes, I know all about that duty-of-a-citizen stuff. It doesn't go. There are exceptions to every rule, and this was one of them. When a man risks his liberty to come and root at a ball-game, you've got to hand it to him. He isn't a crook. He's a fan.'

I don't think he was kidding around
He probably just said it because he’s exasperated and frustrated and knows he’ll never be good at getting on base.
i think its just geoff fansewer
being the stupid drooling moron he is all the time every day.
HELLO HELLO MR WILPON. WE WANT THE MANSION NOT THE CONDO.
He's definitely serious

DOB is an important stat
for example, a player with a DOB of 12/17 or 11/27 is a clutch, gritty player with enough heart to be a phucking champion.
A DOB of 12/20 or 6/11 means a player is a choking choker who chokes and ruins the game of baseball with dancing.

This quote makes me happy
Because this is the guy the Braves are counting on (along with the mummified remains of Garrett Anderson) to protect Larry Wayne in the order!
2009 Mets: maybe its the Phillies turn to have a terrible bullpen?
on that note
Frenchy will be very lucky to have the career that Anderson did, since Anderson was another hacker with power who had no idea how to take a walk.
