Amazin' Avenue Swag Contest: April Results

Congratulations to englishgrey, the winner of the Amazin' Avenue Swag Contest for April!

For winning the April contest, englishgrey claimed the New York Mets 1986 Collector's Edition DVD Set, which is a nine-disc collection featuring Game 6 of the 1986 NLCS and all seven World Series games in their entirety.

Having won a month, englishgrey is not eligible to win another monthly contest this season. If the Mets are fortunate enough to make the postseason we will have some sort of playoff contest, so he would be eligible for any prizes there. Also, there's a chance to win a prize every single game for racking up a perfect 100 on that day's contest, so he (or any other monthly winner) could still cash in there. It's not easy to score perfectly; you have to get all five questions right, including nailing the pitcher's game score right on the nose. However, this is a neat way for past winners to keep playing and for folks who missed a few games or joined the monthly contest too late to participate and still win a prize even if they are too far behind to win the monthly contest.

Here are the top ten scores for the month of April:

Num # User Score # Games Avg. High
1 1 englishgrey 701 21 33.4 70
2 2 beelzebot 697 21 33.2 67
3 3 RIPShea 680 21 32.4 65
4 4 sireric 667 20 33.4 67
5 5 DevonEdwards 646 18 35.9 88
6 6 cjmulrain 642 15 42.8 68
7 7 LOUtheMETSfan 618 19 32.5 64
8 8 IanB in MD 611 18 33.9 70
9 9 kingcritical 608 19 32 76
10 10 Endys Game 607 20 30.4 70

The full April scoreboard can be found here. As a reminder, the scores for the month are aggregated by username and e-mail, so make sure you use the same ones every day. Also, make sure the e-mail address you use matches the one you signed up with here on AA; if you signed up at SB Nation with a junk email address, now is your chance to update that to your real one.

Thanks again to everyone who participated this month. I think we all had a lot of fun, and hopefully it made the games and the game chatters here a little more interesting. Here's to more fun and even more participation in May.

I met my goal...

…of placing ahead of Putz-Rod!.

My 33.5 avg ain’t too shabby, but only 8 games. Weak.

damn

if I’d just participated in 2 more April games at or above my average, I’d have won. So far my May has been much worse than my April. Oh well…

"This is the beauty of baseball. In basketball, at the end of the game, you want to put the ball in your best scorer's hands. But in baseball, it's up to a rookie like McGlinchy and a journeyman like Franco with the entire season on the line. Baseball history is dotted with names like Al Weis and Brian Doyle, men who have taken their name out of the agate type and placed it into the headlines, because it was simply their time."

Oh, crap.

Same here, cjmulrain. You really should’ve won, though.

bittersweet

i was 30 points behind the leader on the last game of april. i knew my only shot at getting the lead was to pick the mets to lose since johan was on the mound for the last game, figuring everyone else would pick the mets to win. the gambit worked because the marlins beat johan that day, but i would have preferred to see the mets win that game.

the mets have won 5 of 6 since that game though, so things have worked. and i get to enjoy the 1986 world series for the first time. win-win.

Enjoy

I won the same set in the Swag Contest last year. It is great.

Grission and Husart - that is either the non-union Mexican equivelant of "Starsky and Hutch" or the key to winning the World Series.

(Yes, I'm having too much fun with GraphJam)
I'm doing a little study on the NL East and thought I'd share an interesting little tidbit. To all of the self-loathing Mets fans/lazy 'MLB insiders' and journalistic parrots who have 1) Condemned the entire Mets organization as a joke 2) Written off this core's impressive run to date and 3) Deified the Phillies as unstoppable juggernauts w/ no chance to lose this division:

Yes, those wins are weighted towards '06-'07 and yes, the Phillies' are more recent but the fact remains that no other team in that span can even come close to the Mets total of days in first place, which should be garnering a lot more respect than it has. If only because we still have nearly the same core in place that has clearly had a lot of success and health-willing can very easily do so again in 2010.
