J.J. What a Putz
Wow, the New York Metsspent a whole lot of money during the off season so to eliminate blown games by the bull pen, well I guess they should have spent more money. Monday night the Mets got off to a great start in Pittsburgh going up 5-0, only to lose 8-5.
Starting Pitcher Livan Hernandez, who was 3-0 in the month of May, allowed 3 runs on in 5 2/3 innings. He left the game hoping to get his 5th win of the year, and with the bull pen the Mets have this year, why would their be any doubt.
J.J. Putz, was one of the big multi-million dollar acquisitions the Mets got during the off season. His job is to pitch the 8th inning of games but on Monday, he had his second consecutive bad outing. Last night he allowed 2 runs and couldn't even close the inning out, in fact he was lucky to get one out.
Tonight he didn't even record an out, but he did allow 4 runs, as the Mets allowed 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to lose the game. What could have been a nice win to open up a road series ended up a bad lost, and with the Mets hurting the way the are, giving up games like this one shouldn't be an option in that club house.

So...you like...
the Mets, the 49ers, and the Celtics?

The only explanation
is he was a front runner in the mid-80’s. He probably loves Hulk Hogan and Michael Jackson, too.

Exactly
Like if in 10 years, we meet a 90’s kid who loves the Bulls, the Yankees, and the Cowboys.

I thought we already met that kid
Didn’t you just describe LeBron James?

I knew a kid growing up in New York
who loved the Bulls, 49ers, Yankees, and UConn basketball. This was the mid-90s.
so sad
when I was a kid I loved the Mets, the Knicks and Nets, the Rangers (although I liked the islanders as well), Jets and Giants (preferred the Jets and Joe Willie, although i was only 5 when they won anything-but he made shaving cream ads with hot babes still when I got old enough to care…about the babes that is). The yankees I didn’t like, although now i tolerate them. I was an Indians fan in the AL. These teams all mostly stunk it up, although the ’73 Nets and Knicks were great. I saw a lot of Knicks games back then.
UConn? Ugh. I was a huge Carolina fan, since that is where my dad went and I ended up going. St. John’s was ok, Mullin, etc., but UConn? I liked them before they had Calhoun. Corny Thompson, etc. A New York kid that likes all those teams? Sheesh.
Yeah, awful, right?
I grew up with Mets/Jets/Islanders/Knicks/SJU. My sports renaissance was probably the ‘98-’00 years - the Jets got to the AFC finals, the Knicks were pretty consistently good, and the Johnnies had the Artest/Erick Barkley/et al. lineup. And the Mets were pretty good, too. The Islanders sucked, but started a bit of a consecutive playoff run in ’01’02.
Of course, I got no championships out of the deal.
Aww man, that wasn't meant to be strikethough, obviously.

I loved that Mets team. So a penant, knicks championship, rangers played well (not a huge hockey fan, so I didn’t mind the Islanders once they got really good either). Jets and Giants were eh. I saw a lot of Giants game. Craig Morton. Joe Pisarcik. awful.
confession
I was a Bulls fan growing up in the 90’s, but other than that it was Mets/Giants/Islanders/SJU (had season tickets to them since I was 3). And after Jordan retired, I became a Knicks fan…I never liked the Ewing/Starks/Oakley teams, but I really liked Allan Houston and Latrell Sprewell (go figure). I consider rooting for them the past 8 years to be my pennance for having been a front runner when I was a kid.
I'm related to that kid.
My younger brother roots for the Yankees, Cowboys, Braves, and Bulls.

front runner?
ya all those teams were good in the 80’s but i was just a child then, and now if u look at those teams other than the celtics winning it all last year, the last 20 years have been pretty rough. I was also a Hulkamanic back then but again who wasn’t.

'70s
I’ma Bob Backlund guy myself. Warner Wolf used to show clips on his WABC sports news gig.
Actually, was never a huge wrestling fan. Wolf was the only news sports guy who said anything about it back then. Although when I was a kid and went down south to visit relatives I was transfixed by Chief Wahoo Mcdaniel vs. Ric Flair type stuff. Midlantic wrestling. They would show a little on tv before real sports would come on, like ACC hoops or the Billy Cunningham led Larry Brown coached Carolina Cougars. That ws a great team. Mack Calvin. Cunningham.
I recommend Loose Balls, ahistory of the ABA. I guarantee you Ferrell or the writers read that book before they made that ABA movie. Some of it is straight out of that (in particular the cheerleader uniforms are the same as in one photo in the book, to a t).
Clubhouse options
A. Win
B. Lose
I don’t think anyone’s choosing B. It happens though. This team Omir Santos has stolen his share of wins in the last few weeks, so I’m not that upset. No one gave anything away in this game, Putz just did what we all knew he was bound to do eventually anyway given the way he’s pitched thus far and the way he’s been bailed out by luck Bobby Parnell lately.
Also, the Mets didn’t sign Putz, they traded for him. Looks bad in hindsight, but not one of the things I’m compelled to criticize Omar about given the situation at the time the trade was made.

Nice recap!
I knew some of these things, well, probably all of them. But you weave it together so very handsomely!
JJ what a Putz
Well I think that Jerry Maqnuel should use Parnell. Use Putz when the game is not on the line in the 8th inning. Parnell throws strikes and the Mets should ride that hot hand then give the game to K-Rod in the 9th for the save.
Mike Dunnom
JJ what a Putz
I mean Jerry Manuel.

JJ what a Putz
(I get it. You have to repeat the title of the post / comment to communicate with c1o1. It’s like your OS password to operate your machine.)
c1o1, this does not compute. Please rephrase. Is the game on the line in the 8th, or should Jerry use Putz in the 8th?
can we get a centerpede alert or something
so i know which fanposts to check?
i mean i get to most of them anyway buit this way i’ll know to go here first. k, thnx much!

terrible
JJ is still unhappy being the set up guy and hes bringing his lack of happiness onto the field. Bring on Parnell!
Nah, it's just mechanics.
I think you have to be more than “unhappy” to lose nearly two MPH off your fastball in one year.
