So...where do these two go now on our prospect charts?
I mean, Matz is a few years away, and I don’t think Shields is a better middle infield prospect than Tejada or Havens, right?

Considering the lack of data, I'm thinking
Matz could be somewhere around the back end of top 20, fitting into lots of interesting if unspectacular arms the Mets have in that range. Below Carson, maybe in similar territory to someone like Familia or Moviel.
Shields sounds almost like a poor man’s Havens from what I’ve read so far, so yes, he’d rank well below both of those. He was an interesting pick, the Mets are reasonable deep at MIF right now, and Shields doesn’t sound like he’ll be a natural SS in the longterm either. But there’s some decent offensive potential, I’m not really sure how his tools grade out at this point though.
