The Mets Acquire Chip Ambres, Citizens Of Buffalo Cheer

According to Hubbuch, The Mets got OF Chip Ambres from the Red Sox today. You may remember Ambres for his .376 wOBA with New Orleans in 2007. Total Zone had him at 17 runs above average that season. Ambres also had a three game stay with the Mets that year, in which he hit a GWRBI. He's probably an upgrade over Cory Sullivan or whoever else he'll take playing time from in Buffalo. If nothing else, he's a reminder of how uncreative Minaya is and how bad the Mets leftfield situation was in 2007. I suppose he's Emil Brown's replacement, and he's another player I don't want to see on the Mets or batting second this season.

Except that Emil Brown cleared waivers

and is reporting to AAA, too. According to Lennon.

Other notes about this video

Long = product of Mets farm system
Ambres = current Met property
Kerry Robinson = Omar Minaya invited him to spring training in 2005 (maybe 2006)

I hate being a Met fan

I think all Met fans are being punished for a past life. It was so gritty how Omir Santos popped up with the bases loaded. Too bad he can’t teach grit to the rest of the team.

Does Omar ever throw a card out of his rolodex?

Or at least delete a contact from his Blackberry? Is Omar just one of those guys who gives a lifetime pass to anyone who he’s ever signed/traded for?

(Yes, I'm having too much fun with GraphJam)
I'm doing a little study on the NL East and thought I'd share an interesting little tidbit. To all of the self-loathing Mets fans/lazy 'MLB insiders' and journalistic parrots who have 1) Condemned the entire Mets organization as a joke 2) Written off this core's impressive run to date and 3) Deified the Phillies as unstoppable juggernauts w/ no chance to lose this division:

Yes, those wins are weighted towards '06-'07 and yes, the Phillies' are more recent but the fact remains that no other team in that span can even come close to the Mets total of days in first place, which should be garnering a lot more respect than it has. If only because we still have nearly the same core in place that has clearly had a lot of success and health-willing can very easily do so again in 2010.
