that might actually make this loss worthwhile

Haha, I wonder if he'll actually burn all of his Mets related items.
I can just imagine someone sobbing in their living room, throwing piles upon piles of Mets memorabilia into a fire while screaming, “You killed my dream, Luis!!! You killed my dream!!!”

yeah, that'd be pretty funny
I mean, if Glavine’s meltdown in the 2007 finale didn’t make him burn his stuff, how could a loss in a June game against a non-division rival make him snap?
I mean, this was a bad loss, but there have been WAY WORSE in recent years.
Somehow, a chain of events unfolded that put Steve Phillips in a professional broadcast booth Sunday night so he could rip Carlos Beltran. Try to explain that in any other terms.

Totally agree. Like when Wes Helms went yard last year about 2 seconds after Ryan Braun
It goes with being a sports fan. If it doesn’t bring you joy, don’t watch. I’m so tired of the “woe is me” bullshit. Take a few days off from being a fan if it’s not working for you.

I told my wife
I was throwing out all my Mets stuff after the “Glavine game”. She then said, “So after you throw out all that stuff what are you going to do?” I sighed and said, “Probably go out and buy all new stuff.”
Needless to say I didn’t thow anything out but such is the life of a Met (sports?) fan.

We sure are losing a lot of people to the Yankees lately.
Don’t these guys care if they go to heaven or not? I’d rather re-live the those 10 seconds after Slappy dropped the ball over and over and over again for the rest of my life than be a Yankees fan.
My back-up is the Blue Jays for the day that I finally lose it and have a Mets Nervous Breakdown. At least I can still root against those bastards.

Depending on where I move to in two years, that place's team will be my backup.

yes
And other than Devon and his….issues, I don’t think we’re losing anyone. As Mets fans, we’re used to this kind of get-kicked-in-the-balls kind of thing.
My backup is the Rays. They have the front office that I can always dream of having on the Mets. Plus, shattering the Yankees-Red Sox AL East stranglehold last year was sweet.

Brian Stokes on acid
Was still a better choice than Switzer. I wonder if Jerry had even found time to watch Switzer throw between shining his pimp chalice and defogging his Buddy Holly emo glasses.
Oil Spill had better be in the ninth inning of every game the Mets lead in for the rest of the season. Also, Frankie should get to give Castillo an atomic wedgie everyday during warmups. Or maybe do something teabag related, if that’s his thing. Luis Castillo deserves to have the complete and utter humiliation he must have felt today be with him for every waking moment of the rest of his life.

Thanks, Sam, for trying.
I just need to not think about this game for a while.

two hours later and I am still speechless
I am in stunned disbelief, the way the Red Sox were in 1986. I may be the only one but I actually feel bad for Castillo. At the same time, he may be cut. Like Doug O’Brien missing two FG’s against the Steelers, some gaffes are just too awful to ever live down in New York. I am not saying its rational but I wouldn’t be shocked if Castillo is gone.

also as someone pointed out in the thread
How the fuck do the Yankees get away with dog piling A-Rod the way they did? Awful.
by Endys Game on Jun 13, 2009 12:54 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I would have much preferred if they ran out to short right and dog piled Slappy.
That would have been far more appropriate.

OK
After a good night’s sleep and a spot of brekkie I’m feeling a little less mortified about last night’s game. Not sure I’ve ever seen a play like that to lose a game, and I damn sure know that all the Yankee fans at work will be waiting to see me on Monday morning, but it’s baseball, I’m not gonna burn all my Mets paraphernalia (heh heh that post cracks me up) and it’s not the end of the world. That said, I’m gonna get the hell outside today because it’s gonna push 75 and sunny in upstate NY, and I’m probably not gonna see today’s game. If nothing else, it will spare me from Buck, McCarver and 8000 replays of Luis’s missed catch, plus probably a montage of hilarious Mets cock-ups from over the years.
I will also spend today being grateful that tomorrow’s game is not the Sunday night game on ESPN.

P.S.
according to Matt Cerrone, it’s not really Luis’s fault that the Mets lost:
That said, Francisco Rodriguez didn’t have to let Derek Jeter grind out that hit, and he didn’t have to throw three straight balls to Mark Teixeira… and, how many runners did the Mets leave on base, and how many runs did their pitching allow? No one game ever comes down to one single player, no matter how you slice it.
While this is true in the greater sense of things, I have to disagree and say, yes, Luis Castillo lost the game last night.

every other
player catches that ball.cerrone is a retard
by Jadden Hopkins on Jun 13, 2009 10:40 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
is Cerrone smart enough to know that Frankie was basically pitching around Teixeria?
he wasn’t going to let Tex beat him. He went after A-Rod because he is slumping. And of course A-Rod didn’t beat him. Castillo did. And I would like to beat Cerrone.
by Endys Game on Jun 13, 2009 10:46 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Why let Tex beat you from the left side?
It made perfect sense for Frank to pitch around him….and he stil basically had a place to put A-Rod as well…it was the total right decision.
That is just moronic to say that Frank was just as responsible

god forbid
our closer gave up a base hit to a future HOFer.
oh wait, didn’t he then get one of the greatest players of all time to then pop out on a 3-1 fastball in a crazy pressure situation?
k-rod is 16-16 in my eyes.

he “let” Jeter get that hit.

Thinking there would be some crazy update on Castillo's wiki page
I stumbled upon this nugget from his personal life:
Castillo graduated from the class of 1991 at Colegio San Benito Abad in the Dominican Republic. He is married and has one child, Luis Jr., born on October 12, 2001. In his spare time Castillo enjoys playing dominoes.
Dominoes. How ironic.

Ironic is that he is from Abad because he is a Abad 2nd baseman
It’s funny how one horrible play can just ruin your mood. Had we won that, we’d be laughing off the schellacking today and would have taken 2 of 3 from the Yankers.

I didn't even realize that
I was was using the whole falling dominoes meme. Seriously though, that play will be in the back of my mind for awhile.
That being said, I don’t think he’s an awful second baseman. He did use two hands on that pop-up today ;-)
