A Bounce Back Win.

Man what a team. The Mets are driving their fans crazy. After a heartbreaking loss to the Yankees on Friday, the Mets beat up on the Yankees Saturday by the score of 6-2. The Mets had 17 hits. The pitching by Fernando Nieve was great  and the bullpen held the Yankees down again. Jerry Manuel has to get some credit here, because the Mets could of packed this game in and played poorly today. The Mets came out fighting and got a big win. If the Mets win on Sunday with Johan Santana on the mound the loss on Friday night doesn't look so bad. So Met fans take heart the Mets are not done yet. My only question is even with this bounce back win,how many more times this season are he Mets going to drive their fans crazy?

Personally for me, obviously I want to see them win but it will leave a sour taste in my mouth if they win tomorrow knowing we should’ve had the sweep. But I certainly would sign up for 2 of 3. Lets hope they can give Johan some run support in that little league field they call the new Yankees Stadium. We can use a nice 8-1 game.

I am that way too

Even if they swept, I would be thinking back how we gave up 2 against Philly and thinking we should have took 6 in a row from these two.

Though I must say, I will be pleased if they win tomorrow and take this series. Then the talk on Monday won’t be dominated by Castillo’s drop, because the Yankees will have dropped 5 of 6 to the Sawx and Mets. I actually like Luis, which I know is unpopular. I just feel like he is one of those guys that is hated on because he just got lucky enough to be offered way too much money to go where he wanted to anyway and he smartly accepted it, like any of us would. He isn’t great by any means, but I think he has exceeded most of our expectations this year. He has also played tons of games and stayed healthy. His range is gone, but I really don’t think he is a horrible player. Though it is hard to watch him hit left handed, I sometimes wonder if he should make the full time switch to righty. The way he hits, you would think he would be able to handed balls breaking away from him. When he faces left handed pitching, he really is a very nice hitter. I also respect that he wasn’t a pussy about the whole drop thing, he took what he had coming like a man. His teammates seemed to have his back too.

Do I think Orlando Hudson would be better? Sure, but after last year, Luis could have just said the hell with it, mailed it in for the rest of the contract and waited for a release, and collected his money, but he has worked his ass off to get into better shape, and he has stayed healthy, we could have had Wilson Valdez and Ramon Martinez both playing in the infield at the same time. He also gives us a .360 OBP at the top of the order, however hollow it is, he does a nice job getting on for Beltran and Wright.

I really don't know sometimes about Luis

I want to like him, and I really try to, but everything he does on defense seems wrong to me. He’s on his heels on every groundball he has time to set on, and he has zero first step quickness left. He’s hit enough this year where he’d be a nice player as an average defensive middle infielder, but its hard to say he’s even been that. I have a hard time calling professional baseball players lazy, but sometimes, Castillo just looks like he doesn’t give a crap when he’s fielding a ball. His throws are some of the ugliest I’ve ever seen, and its not for lack of raw arm strength, its for lack of using any part of his body other than his arm to throw.

Have you forgotten the Roberto Alomar era already? I’ve never seen a multiple gold glove winner with such an awful arm. Every throw was lobbed like he was taking practice grounders.

Yeah that's true

I think I just blocked that out, because there really wasn’t much I enjoyed about that team during that era anyway, lol. But Castillo just makes me cringe. Not because he has no arm strength, it seems like his raw arm strength is at least kinda average. But he just always looks flat footed, he never gets his momentum into his throws at all. I don’t remember watching Robbie well enough, but its always annoyed the crap outta me with Luis.

and now people are trying to have a reasonable discussion here?

Seriously, if this garbage keeps getting posted, it just continues to cheapen AA’s signal-to-noise ratio, which is looking pretty fragile these last few weeks. Make it stop! Let’s have some frigging standards!

I think if we're gonna let this continue for the forseeable future

it needs to be a place of humor. For the love of god, it’s centerpede101.

this is pretty mediocre centerpede

i guess we’ve been spoiled after so many outstanding c101 posts that this seems merely pedestrian in comparison. it was also too soon since his last post, which while also wasn’t up to the legendary par centerepede set for himself, at least it should some real passion.

i look forward to seeing centerepede101’s next post, and hopefully see him rebound from such a bland display.

All of the mets fans hope that we will not see the bad news mets ever again.

Centerpede needs a bounce back post.

I'm not getting as much of a kick out of these posts as I used to.

My only question is even with this bounce back win,how many more times this season are he Mets going to drive their fans crazy?

Answer: “How many games are left?”

Spacing, punctuation and overall english is still rather funny though.

Judging by the comments to Matt Callan’s ode to 1986 Mets: A Year To Remember from a few weeks back, the video has a devoted Mets fan following. Despite being too young to remember anything about that season, it has a special place in my fandom as well. It was part of a two video rotation (Ghostbusters being the other) which ran almost daily on my television for a few years in the early 90s. And it remained a once-in-awhile watch through high school and college.

Unsurprisingly, the physical tape deteriorated over time, and the screen jumps and sound skips made for a less than optimal viewing experience. With sale of the video discontinued, my brother converted it to DVD and gave it to me for Christmas in 2010. See the picture above for the box and DVD. He even created a scene selection function which can be accessed from the main menu. "Get Metsmerized!" plays on loop on the menu screen. It is my favorite Christmas gift ever and is still nice to throw on for a viewing.

"How'd we do it? Mirrors!"
I was flipping through some of my parents' photo albums this afternoon in search of one particular shot of the sign my older sister made for Mets Banner Day back in the late eighties. Though I didn't find that one — I'll post it when I eventually track it down, and I can assure you that it's Keith-themed — but I did stumble upon this wonderful photo of my younger sister's stuffed animal menagerie spread out in front of a glorious rainbow-festooned Mets pennant, also from the late eighties.

She works for the HRC now and was particularly delighted to be reminded of this photo.

Now that banner day is back, hopefully this years will look a little like this. I know it's not great, but i don't pretend to be a professional. embiggen!
