Ha
Screw that guy. David Eckstein could probably play first base, couldn’t he?

I'm not an expert on such things
But his delivery looks a lot cleaner here than from what I can remember in Brooklyn. There’s still a lot of movement, especially as he’s setting and as he begins to lift his leg, but the arm action looks nice and loose, there’s not much recoil. There’s something about his arm angle that seems unusual, its low but he really seems to be on top of the ball.

It's almost as if
he winds up to deliver from a three-quarters angle but then comes out over-the-top instead.
Exactly
Well put. I think its that he’s keeping his upper half upright longer than you usually see, so you expect his arm to come in with a lower angle. Usually a guy who comes up high will either lean his top half back or keep it straight but kind of “sit back” as he brings his front leg forward. But Jenrry really waits until the last second, just before he opens his front side up, and then leans back to get his arm up and get on top just a bit more. Seems like that might have some interesting deceptive value, and overall its a lot less moving parts than I remember from his Clone days, but it might be a tricky timing mechanism in terms of repeatability. It also seems like its causing his neck to “whip” a bit, perhaps making it more difficult to keep his head still. But its much less stiff that I remember, more one fluid movement than lots of separate moving parts, and his arm looks really nice and loose on the release.
Also, this may just be an illusion from the angle of the video, but it seems like really drives off his back leg, but then takes a relatively short stride. I don’t remember noticing that watching him last year. Last year, everything he was doing seemed very long and max effort. Maybe it has something to do with controlling that “WTF WAS THAT??!!” offspeed pitch?
BTW, if anyone who knows more about this kind of stuff than I do could tell me if I’m making any sense it’d be much appreciated, lol. I find this stuff fascinating, but I have no idea if I actually understand it at all or if I just wish I did.
