More evidence Jayson Werth is a douche
I don't like Jeff Pearlman too much, but he's pretty much right on in this article.

Douche indeed
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but Jerry abuses the privilege.

Normally, I hatehatehate Jeff Pearlman.
But he’s pretty much dead-on here. And I got pretty pissed reading the comments, too. Obviously, some Philly source linked to the article and self-righteous Philly fans came on angrily calling him a douche. The same ones that probably congratulated and supported him on his forthcomingness with Piazza steroid allegations.

Ehh
A couple of the commenters on Pearlman’s blog touched on this, but I’d bet money there’s more to the story than “great/sweet/angelic reporter dicked on by Jayson Werth.” What if said reporter wrote some negative things about Werth or teammates in the past? The fact that he said “not for you” makes me think Werth knew who this reporter was and had a reason for what he said. Who knows though. Also, Werth is a pretty damn good player. Comparing him to Ryan Church and Shane Spencer is just ignorant.
If I was a pro athlete I’d definitely be guarded and not say anything some parasite reporter could turn into the next day’s headline. At the same time I wouldn’t be a total dick I guess.

I was about to basically write this
so I’ll just rec it instead.

I thought the same thing
It seems kind of pointed.
That said, a lot of players are complete jerks.
I actually hope it is the case that Werth had some reson to say that. i like him as a player. Just the whole top pick, catcher, struggled, now achieveing success. Plus I had him on my fantasy team last year.
I was more pissed off at him for the Swoboda-esque diving catch of Wright’s drive in the last series.

We need more evidence?

holy, he references Bad Ronald.
I remember those guys, played a show with them once. Weird.
We've got ourselves a ball club, the Mets of New York town!

I have no idea who that is.
But apparently they released an album on 9/11/01, whatever that might mean.

He also refers to Jeannie Garth

I made a mistake
I meant to title this "More evidence that Jayson Werth is a colossal douche. Like I said above, I don’t love Pearlman (despite the fact that we’re both Mets fans who went to the same college) and I’m sure the reporter might have written something negative about Werth, but the fact is that there’s no excuse for him to have been such a dick to the reporter. I don’t care what the guy wrote – be the bigger man. And not that I think better athletes should get away with more, but it should be pointed out that Werth, while maybe better than Pearlman suggests, isn’t exactly Barry Bonds.

btw
what was the prior evidence he is a colossal douche? aside from catching Wright’s liner. He’sa phillie? I may have missed something else he has done.

I get that he's a weird looking dude and has had some big moments against the Mets the last few seasons
but an honest question – what evidence is there that he’s a douche? (besides this Pearlman story) I’m not saying there’s no evidence, but if the only reason he’s a “colossal douche” is for his looks and on-field performance then I’m not sold. Dick Torino – colossal douche. John Rocker – colossal douche. Jayson Werth to me is just a solid baseball player who we wouldn’t give 2 shits about if he played on the Royals or Twins.

(Not much really)
But if you look at guys like Corey Hart, Jayson Werth, Wes Helms…just the way they carry themselves…screams jerkwad.

OK, I hear that
To me, there’s different levels of douche. There’s guys like Terrell Owens and Roger Clemens and Torino who do dumbass things that truly warrant the title. Then there’s the Werth’s and Hart’s who haven’t really done anything ridiculous but just have an aura of douche based on how they carry themselves.

he spells his name with a "y"?
I don’t know – I actually have nothing against Werth, but IMO anyone who wears a uniform that dots it’s eyes with stars is an automatic douche.

Wow! A baseball player blew off a reporter!
Never thought that would happen! He’s the worst!
Mets players always treat the media with kindness and respect. And never pretend not to speak English!

"Not for You, Bud"
That’s it? That’s what got this reporter all pissy?
And as for the people here who agree with this clown…NYers used to be tough. What happened?

Out of respect for the distaff side, I will use the words French Shower from now on for, uh, the other word.
One time in college, I was standing behind James Worthy’s girlfriend at the time, a cheerleader, at the drug store. She was buying some Massengill Disposable. Country Flower. Big Game James indeed.

I'm not pissy about it.
I’m thinking more along the lines of, "Well if the standards for the Mets include no celebrating, no joy, no happiness, only aggressive competitiveness with no fun involved…then saying Jayson Werth is a douche for not talking to the media politely is hardly going past any boundaries if we apply the same rules to the Phillies, right? Personally, I don’t really care. But I’d prefer if the media holds both teams to the same standards, and for once someone seemed to be doing that. So if I were you, I’d pick your battles with regards to this stuff.

The Met Fans Celebration Police
Have been saying since Friday that the Yankees shouldn’t have celebrated Castillo dropping a pop up. So it’s all in the eye of the beholder.

Who said that?
We have a Celebration Police? I want in!
by BlackOps on Jun 16, 2009 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Fair enough
Yet it’s a completely different situation. Did A-Rod “win” the game? Castillo certainly just “lost” it. In fact, I have no problem with them celebrating Tex, he did all the right things there when he scored. But again, completely different than K-Rod celebrating after a strikeout to get the save or Jose Reyes high fiving his teammates after a big homerun.

It’s one of those things that will get under your skin.
