Hangin' On: Mets 6, Orioles 4

Mrs. AmazinAvenue (Kim, to most) has been fighting bronchitis (or some other upper respiratory infection) for some three weeks now and I had to bring her to the ER with chest pain -- where we spent a delightful six hours -- only to learn nothing new. It was our second trip there in two weeks and the whole thing is really quite frustrating. All blood work, x-rays and MRI results have come back negative, which is good, though at some point you almost wish they would tell you a test came back positive just so you had something to hold up and say, "A-ha! That's what's causing these problems." That hasn't happened, so we're left to believe that it is some kind of bronchial ailment with the chest discomfort stemming from a pulled muscle (from coughing so much) or perhaps some minor inflammation of the lungs.
All of this is to (a) let you into my life just a bit, and (b) excuse myself from recapping a game I didn't actually see. Through all of our waiting -- and the $5 hospital WiFi fee -- I was able to follow much of the Mets' victory on my iPhone. We actually had a room in the ER when we "visited" a couple of weeks back so I had the luxury of watching that Mets' game on teevee. This trip we spent most of our time out in the hallway so I was limited to catching bits and pieces via gamecast. It was enough for me to discover that the Mets hung on to win (yay!) and the Phillies were undone in the tenth by the Blue Jays and former Philthbag Scott Rolen (double-yay!).
Three games back with many more to play. Tim Redding goes tomorrow against Koji Uehara, a game I hope to watch from the comfort of my living room.

I believe you are wrong.

The 2009 Amazin' Avenue: SCREW K-ROD, SIGN FUENTES! Check it out, K-Rod ERA under 1.00, Fuentes over 5.00. CASTILLO MUST GO! Castillo is hitting .300!! DON'T SIGN SHEFFIELD! Sheffield has been a great signing. OMIR WHO? Omir grand slam! OMIR SUCKS! Omir takes Papelbon deep to win. CASTRO OVER OMIR! Omir drives in every Met run, wins game! EPIC FAIL.
Bronchitis is No Joke
Hope your wife gets better, Eric. I had a bit of the bronchitis last month and it sucked (accept for the Dr’s note that told me to stay home for five days. That was cool.)
Last night was excellent. I was at the game by myself, but sitting around some smart and funny Mets fans. Good times. Sadly, I was the only one who had yet to visit Citi Field. I got to get that taken care of soon!
Anyway, I think Jerry left Big Pelf in the game too long. BUt whatever. Green and PedroF were awesome in shutting down the dang Os.
I’m excited for tonight’s game. Adam Jones bobble-head night. The crowd will be bigger and louder (at least for the first few innings.)
Grission and Husart - that is either the non-union Mexican equivelant of "Starsky and Hutch" or the key to winning the World Series.
About last night game
Wright was captured by cameras confronting Mike Pelfrey in the visitors’ dugout at Camden Yards after Pelfrey departed in the sixth inning of what became a 6-4 Mets win Tuesday. The exchange was positive, but Wright (pictured right) had a pointed message.
Any videos/snapshots of that?
That video is on the mound
so I’m guessing no?

Mrs. Simon. UR ailments suck (and gasp and wheeze).

I thought
that whenever the GWRBI was unawarded that it was just an overriding amount of Grission that allowed the Mets to win and thus Grission got the RBI.
I wore my Grission shirt last night
It helped, I just know it!

Bronchitis sounds like it stone cold blows.

And the doctors themselves performed all the tests, right?
At least as a viewer of House, I’ve been led to believe that doctors perform all the bloodwork and other exams. Seriously, I hope the Mrs. feels better.
As for the game itself, I turned it on just as K-Rod entered, and was furious at Jerry for having his closer in a 4-run game with the bottom of the order coming up. The O’s radio guys neglected to mention that there were other guys on base until K-Rod walked in a run. Oh, my bad.
I will be at the game tonight, which will be my 4-month old daughter’s first ever game. Surely she will remember. Of course, judging by how it is here in DC at the moment and the forecast being what it is, most of our time at the park might be spent looking at a tarp.
living in DC
you get used to awful announcing, on both radio and TV. Last night runners mysteriously ended up on 2nd with no stolen base being mentioned until the announcers noticed.
I’m panning on heading out to the game tonight too, but won’t buy tickets until I know if the weather will hold up. I want that Adam Jones bobblehead – he makes the team fun to watch at times…
And he's on my fantasy team
The kid’s a stud. I think the O’s might have gotten the better part of that Bedard deal.

I recommend 16 Vicodin and awarm bath. If the warm, bath doesn’t work the Vicodin will.
I am not a doctor but I did stay at my own home last night.
Good to see you didn’t miss the game E. The wonders of modern technology and a passion for baseball over your wifes ailment is an awesome combination.
Seriously, I hope she feels better.
P.S. I am guessing its H5N1.

Best wishes to Mrs. Simon
I, too, missed the game but I’m glad it had a positive outcome. Also glad to see that it was Markakis who hurt us – he’s my favorite Oriole, mostly b/c one of my best friends is his cousin.
Get well soon, Kim
I’ve had my share of upper respiratory crap in the past and I know how unpleasant it can be.
Feel better Kim!
