Gonna miss the first few innings of this one
off to attend a focus group on beanies. We get free dinner and Adidas swag. I have failed to see the downside at this point.
Anyway, with expectations reasonably dampened, Let’s Go Mets!

is "beanies" slang for something among today's youth?
If not, tell them to bring back the propeller. There’s really no downside to wearing a propeller on your hat.
Mets position players who have been completely injury free this year:
Wright
Santos
Murphy
Tatis
Castillo (wow)
Reed (only outfielder?)
Jerry Manuel...stop being....stupid...
So with Schneider hitting well, Jerry sits him.
Inconceivable.
I think I know what we need to fix our problems.

Jerry Manuel...stop being....stupid...
In other, more awesomer news
Ike Davis to AA Binghamton! This is actually very interesting. Either Omar thinks he can help the Mets this year, or maybe he’s trying to show him off for some other teams? Or maybe he was just ready for the next level.
With all this crazy roster movement (i.e. Wily Mo and Javier Valentin being released, the callups and sendowns and DFA’s, etc.), I think you can expect a trade within the next week. I’m smelling DeRosa.
Jerry Manuel...stop being....stupid...
I am demanding a congressional investigation
into the construction of Citifiield. I believe it is atop a nuclear waste dump, Hoffas grave, or an Indian burial ground. That is the only way to explain the injuries. Even the damn umps get hurt there.
2 outs, and Redding hasn't thrown a ball yet
yay
Jerry Manuel...stop being....stupid...
oh my god
jesus mohammad moses christ himself is at the plate
all bow ye heads
Jerry Manuel...stop being....stupid...
Tim Redding did not throw a ball that inning
9 pitches-9 strikes, 3 pop-ups
sweet
Jerry Manuel...stop being....stupid...
lol screw that
redding threw 3 90 mph fastballs right on the outside corner. i bet they overlap on gameday.
he’s expecting junk in the dirt with 2 out and nobody on. pitch to him. he won’t expect seeing strikes on 0-0, 0-1, or 0-2.
Jerry Manuel...stop being....stupid...
No backup middle infielder
Who cares? God forbid Murphy or Tatis have to play one or two innings at second or short.
Man, Cora gets under a ton of balls.
Jerry Manuel...stop being....stupid...
Murph man!
PS- I know Sheff in left is a bad idea with Redding, a flyball pitcher, on the mound, but can Tatis be much better?
Jerry Manuel...stop being....stupid...
Frustration, anyone?
Is anyone frustrated that Omar isn’t trying to acquire a temporary bat somewhere? I do understand that our prospects are worth retaining, but he gets paid a lot of mula to make the best of a precarious situation. Shouldn’t he be doing SOMETHING?

brain-dead broadcaster bullshit of the day
Howie Rose: They need to be aggressive, but you need to be smart and aggressive.
Wayne Hagin: They should make outs, but not give up outs.
MY BRAIN HURTS
eh
that doesn’t bother me. Kinda like “good morning”
how so, exactly?
“Good morning” seems like using language to communicate and express ideas coherently, at least to me. Whereas the Haginator seems to transmute intended platitudes into meaningless gobbledygook every time he opens his mouth.
Ollie being Ollie in St Lucie
Through 2 he’s given up 5 runs, 1 earned. He threw a wild pitch in the first that led to a run, and he gave up 4 unearned runs in the second (the kind that aren’t really unearned because Perez gave up like 4 hits after the error).
era isn't stupid
it works ok over long stretches, hence, Tom Seaver’s era over his career is better than Jerry Koosman’s, which is better than Gary Gentry’s…it’s rougher than some stars, but not stupid.
why *baseball* is stupid?
Seems more like why “unearned” runs are stupid to me.
Wow
its David Wright and the New York Bisons

What I love about these new SNY commercials
They refer so chidingly to other sports networks — MSG, YES, ESPN — despite being inferior to all of them.
You think SNY is inferior to MSG and YES?
For Sportsnite alone, I’d argue it’s not. Even knowing how bad those talking heads shows are.
C’mon, YES is horrendous.
The less said about ESPN
the better. I do not watch anything on that network
by aparkermarshall on Jun 22, 2009 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions
YES is better than SNY, IMO
YES has Francesa(who sucks, but he’s still something to watch) and Yankeeography(I don’t watch, but if I were a Yankee fan I probably would).
SNY has Sportsnite, which really isn’t any better than Sportcenter or MLB Tonight.
They simulcast Fatso
If anything, that’s a negative.
Sportsnite is awful
Besides the Mets, SNY has nothing but talking heads with rehashed talking points.

Tatis shouldn't even be in the lineup
Nevermind hitting cleanup. My friend (a despicable Dodgers fan) asked me my confidence in the team today. My response was simply: “Fernando Tatis is hitting cleanup. How do you think I feel?”

You CAN actually save money by not buying a $3.00 breakfast at Dunkin.
I was hoping someone would bring up Dunkin Donuts
I considered a full fan post about this but this is probably more appropriate. Anyway, I think they put way too much milk and sugar in their iced coffees. I beg them, “just a tiny bit.” I try anger, passive aggressive behavior, positive reinforcement, etc. Nothing works. Also, the large is very, very large and will give you major problems if you drink the whole thing. Less is more, Dunkin Donuts.

Jerry in the dugout:
Jerry: “Nice work, Parnell!”
Stokes: “Umm, yeah, skip, I’m Brian Stokes?”
Jerry: “What?”
Stokes: “I’m Brian Stokes.”
Jerry: “Yeah, sure, whatever, that was a way to get the double play there, Green.”
Stokes: “No, skip, I’m, uh . . .”
Jerry: “I’m real happy with that one, Green. Hey, if you see that guy Stonks, tell him I set a whole bunch of dirty drawers in the locker room for him to wash.”
Stokes: “sigh . . . Yes, skip.”

I don't know
Razor sucks but that was a perfect throw from Ankel. I actually think it was one of the best throws to the plate I have seen.
Yeah that was a bullet
but Razor has definitely erred on the side of “send the runner” tonight, both times with fortuitous results.

Yes,,,
Let’s have the guy who hit his first HR in like 14 years bunt. Good job, Jerry.
I like when our players can't get the bunt down and are forced to swing away.
Even though they’re in a two strike hole.
Steve Phillips
is honing his “adition by Subtraction” speech re: Beltran DL visit.
Beltran's been so good this year...
That I’m pretty sure Steve Phillips Tonya Harding-ed him.
Aaron Rowand
would use his bruised bone to knock a hole in the fence to rob a homer.
Steve Phillips is like a slightly retarded Tim McCarver. He tries to sound smart, but just sounds like a moron. McCarver used to be smart at least.
It's confirmed that..
everyone agrees his beard looks like dirty snow, right?
Or as Don Delillo would say, ‘snow drilled and gilded with dog piss…’
oh, mcarver was good on saturday.
called the zobrist homer and the wright strikeout.
I still can't understand three bunts in a row.
Just not smart baseball.
The first two did not result in outs
so the third won’t either?

That's where you're wrong sir.
He defied Jerry’s orders to swing away, despite his preference to bunt, by coming up with a covert bouncing ground ball bunt he just employed there.

around the middle in runs I think. That’s not very good.

Mess up a bunt attempt last september, miss twice, then hit away and made an out, and it was the talk of the tabloids the rest of the month?
ok, what's Frankie's song?
How about Paid in Full?
Anyone else love how
Frankie points to the sky on fly balls to the outfield?
You can --
it’s just that no matter how deep they are, he reflexively points. It’s a funny quirk.
So do all pitchers
I’ve seen them point up on homers
he points up on hrs

I don't like Bengie
I read a quote from him the other day where his lack of speed was questioned and his response was “I do my best with what God gave me”, slightly misty-eyed. Dude, you are fat as hell and a professional athlete — GOD DIDN’T GIVE YOU THAT.
by All Shook Down on Jun 22, 2009 10:10 PM EDT up reply actions
metabolism?
oh well, and he doesn’t take a pitch, but he is still a decent player. I doubt if he lost 30 pounds he’d be fleet.
God din’tgive him willpower. :)
I don't think losing 30 lbs would make him fleet either
But it’d probably help things and then he’d be able to use ‘what God gave him’ as a legit excuse.
