Finally,
the Church finds himself in the clean-up role.
Maybe we can avoid a double play today?
"We have to find a way to play better, there's no doubt. Overall. I'm not pointing fingers at anybody. Offense, defense, pitching -- we have to find a way to play better. The reality of this is, coming here to Pittsburgh and being swept -- personally, I feel embarrassed." -- Carlos Beltran
I don't know
but I am certainly confused and terrified!
Hopefully Nieve can keep the magic going a little longer
though I’m really afraid that Pujols has spent the past 24 hours fuming over being struck out by Livan and he’s gonna come out and hit 4 HRs tonight
that really was a great K wasn't it?

I like Evans getting a chance, but
He should be replacing Tatis, not Murph. I see tatis still managing a DP tonight. No lineup complaints other than I’d have only played Tatis is he was going to play 2nd or short (Cora needs a break). Perhaps Tatis does too, though.
we could have a reyes play short
not the good kind, the other one.
Hopefully the Mets will exceed my expectations tonight
much like the US Soccer team exceeded my expectations this afternoon.
Let’s Go Mets!

Absolutely
Even better, for me, was that I was in a bar here in Rochester that was full of soccer fans, with every teevee tuned to the game and the music shut down so the commentary could be heard. Gotta love watching a game like that in an atmosphere where people actually care about the game.

Those pants on Nieve look a little too tight for me

I’m still high over the US win against Spain today.
More accurately, I’m still drunk from sitting in a bar watching the US beat Spain today.

Such a ridiculous upset
Maybe not in context of the competition but def the biggest upset in the (admittedly poor) history of US soccer.
We are even debating wether or not to put that on the sports cover
of our small town paper

I'll say maybe top 5
but not the biggest upset.

Really
what do you think was bigger? The game vs England in the 50s I guess? Nothing during my lifetime.
Yeah
the 1950 game against England I think is number one because, as I understand it, US Soccer was absolutely nothing at the time. The team is at least respectably ranked and not a total joke like it has been.
In my lifetime, I think I’d still rate the 1994 WC win against Colombia higher because it had a huge impact on US Soccer at their home World Cup. Maybe the 3-2 win over Portugal or the 2-0 win over Mexico in WC 2002 also rate higher for me.
No doubt, tho, that this is a top five win for the US. This Spanish side is insanely good, and we were just lucky to be in the semis of the tournament.

OK
given the ultimate meaninglessness of this competition, I can see why you might rate it a bit lower than those. It’s hard for me to evaluate the England game but the Colombia/Portugal/Mexico games were certainly major upsets and impressive wins. However I think this win is more impressive when you consider only the quality of the teams involved. The three teams you mentioned were all good (esp ’02 Por) but right now Spain is the top-ranked team in the world and is essentially the same team that won the Euros last year. They have three guys who just won the CL and their entire roster is full of world-class players. I think this is the best team the US has ever beaten, except maybe that ’50 England team.
I think I'd agree that this is the most talented team the US has ever beaten
I just think it was less of a stretch in this era than it would have been 10, 20 or 60 years ago. This US side has plenty of world-class talent, not up to the level of the Spanish players, but certainly more than they’ve probably ever had. That’s why this win is huge, but I would put some of those other games ahead of it.

I would be shocked
and amazed if Pujols does not hammer one of Nieve’s breaking pitches into either the left field second deck, the line at the Shake Shack, or the Auto Body shops out behind right center. How many major league hitters can actually make you wince in fear when they swing? Not counting Castillo’s lefty stroke, which is a given.

Tatis is hitting 54.5% of balls on the ground.
A right-handed sinker baller is the worst matchup for him. When you have capable left-handed options to play against these kind of pitchers, it’d behoove the manager to play them.

Here's how to tabulate
1. Start with 50 points.
2. Add 1 point for each out recorded, so 3 points for every complete inning pitched.
3. Add 2 points for each inning completed after the 4th.
4. Add 1 point for each strikeout.
5. Subtract 2 points for each hit allowed.
6. Subtract 4 points for each earned run allowed.
7. Subtract 2 points for each unearned run allowed.
8. Subtract 1 point for each walk.

yeah I'd put Redding as the long man when Maine comes back
Ollie, well I don’t think we have to worry about him for awhile
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking
Redding’s been decent of late, but not Nieve-good. It’s interesting how everyone blasts Minaya for lack of depth but in actuality, they have excellent starting pitching depth this year. Niese isn’t even up for us yet.
Trying to believe is my full-time occupation.
